Zimbabwe’s Khama Billiat is steadily climbing the all-time scorers’ list in the SA Premiership, and the halt in the current season due to the novel coronavirus came just as the Kaizer Chiefs forward was finding form again.
Billiat has struggled with injuries and fatigue which has seen Kaizer Chiefs feel the talismanic forward’s absence at times this season.
Billiat is the only active player in the top-10 list of leading goalscorers, with 83 goals, since the inception of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in 1996.
As things stand, the former Ajax Cape Town winger still has a chance to reach the very top with the others in the top-10 having either retired or left the Premiership.
Surprise Moriri and Billiat were teammates at Mamelodi Sundowns, with Moriri having retired in 2017 following a spell with Highlands Park and he was once on the books of Silver Stars (Platinum Stars).
Billiat is currently sitting joint ninth on the list and he started his PSL career at Ajax Cape Town, before moving to Sundowns in 2013 and Chiefs signed him as a free agent almost two years ago.
“Obviously I’ll never be happy with my performance. I always want to do better,” Billiat said.
“I always want to contribute as much as I can, but I’m happier when the team is doing well. When everyone is scoring goals from different angles, it gives us more depth.”
At just 29, Billiat has a number of years still ahead of him in the game which gives him plenty of time to work his way up the list.
