Sam Kerr was once again the hero for Chelsea as they beat Manchester United at Wembley to win the Women’s FA Cup.
Kerr scored the only goal of the match in the second half to continue her remarkable record at Wembley. The 29-year-old Australian has scored five goals in four visits at Wembley and all of those trips have ended with her lifting silverware.

Speaking after the match, Kerr praised the whole team for the win while admitting they didn’t play their best game.
“I think it’s the sign of a great team, we didn’t have our best game but we pushed through. Everyone stuck at it and we got the win. [Pernille Harder] did amazing, the team did amazing. I’d be wrong to say it was all me. I’m just lucky to be the number nine in this great team. A lot of people have been asking for it [the back flip celebration]. I text my friend and said back flip incoming today.” San Kerr told BBC Sports, as per Sky Sports.
Chelsea have now won the Women’s FA Cup for the third time in a row following the 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday. This was the Blues’ seventh FA Cup final within the last 12 years. Their last two triumphs were against Arsenal and Manchester City.
How Chelsea Beat Manchester United At Wembley
Sunday’s final broke the record for an attendance at a Women’s FA Cup final, with 77,390 fans inside Wembley. It was not a walk in the park for Chelsea who got lucky several times in the first half, thanks to goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger.
Manchester United almost got off to a dream start when Leah Galton found the back of the net after just 20 seconds; however, the goal was ruled offside since Ella Toone couldn’t time her run before setting Galton up to finish. Ann-Katrin Berger then did impressively well to deny Millie Turner from a close range. The Blues were once again lucky after Galton fired a golden opportunity high and wide.
Chelsea threatened for the first time when Lauren James’ cheeky header was punched slightly above the post by goalkeeper Mary Earps. Manchester United continued attacking but were nearly caught when Kerr pounced on Maya Le Tissier’s error and set up substitute Pernille Harder who failed to convert.
Harder won the ball back almost immediately and passed it to Kerr who then broke the deadlock. Kerr’s only task was to put the ball in the net and she did it.
Manchester United tried to get an equalizer but there was little that they could do. The Red Devils were almost caught again when Kerr did a fabulous work to set up Sophie Ingle who couldn’t finish from eight yards. Both teams will now shift their focus to the Women’s Super League where Manchester United are leading.
