Gor Mahia, Tusker continue chase for FKF PL title

• Gor Mahia lead the standings with 60 points
• Tusker are two points behind
• There are eight rounds of matches left

The battle for the FKF Premier League title intensifies this Wednesday with Gor Mahia and Tusker FC continuing with their push for the crown.

K’Ogalo lead the log with 60 points, two ahead of second placed Tusker with eight rounds of matches left. Gor will face Mathare United at the Kasarani Stadium while Tusker FC will be the ‘away team’ at their Ruaraka backyard when they take on Nairobi City Stars.

Tusker will hope to complete a home and away beating of City Stars and look towards Gor dropping points against Mathare for them to move top of the standings.

The brewers thrashed City Stars 4-1 in the first leg.

“It will not be an easy match because City Stars have been improving of late and they are playing better. They are not the same team we faced in the first leg. We are ready for them and we know what we need to do as a team,” said coach Robert Matano.

Two consecutive wins for Tusker

Tusker come into the tie following a good run of two consecutive wins against KCB, one in the league and another in the Cup, a bounce back from their disappointing defeat at the hands of Nzoia Sugar.

City Stars have collected seven out of a possible nine points in their last three matches to push up to 14^th in the standings and they will be looking to cash in on their form and win against Tusker.

Meanwhile, Mathare United will be up against Gor Mahia, the two sides having different missions in the duel. Gor are looking to keep their place on top of the table while Mathare are looking to bounce back from a losing streak.

Mathare have always been a problem for Gor and they beat them 2-1 in the first leg. They hope to complete the home and away sweep against the record champions.

But, their recent form is worrying as they have lost all their last five matches. The defeats have seen them slump once again down the standings and are sitting 16^th, two points adrift the automatic relegation zone.

They have brought on board new coach Charles Omondi to try and stem the spiral and he will be keen to start his tenure with a win.

Gor Mahia on the other end have been in good form with four wins out of their last five matches, and with the title at stake, they are in no mood to drop points.

Meanwhile in other fixtures, third placed Nzoia Sugar will be playing FC Talanta in Bungoma while another interesting midweek fixture will see Bandari take on KCB in Nariobi.

Bandari have been on a poor run which resulted in the sacking of head coach Anthony Kimani and they will be under Twahir Muhidin when they take on KCB. Both teams come into the tie fresh from their elimination in the FKF Cup, Bandari having lost to AFC Leopards while KCB were beaten by Tusker FC.
