Shola was born in Zaria, Nigeria on October 10 1981 to his father John Ameobi and Margaret Ameobi. He is a brother to Titi Ameobi, Sammy Ameobi, Ifeniola Ameniobi, Toluwalola Ameobi and Tomi Ameobi. His younger brothers Sammy and Tomi are also professional footballers. His father is a pastor and they were brought up in a very religious background and is married to Jeniffer Ameobi.
Career
Shola Ameobi net worth started when he signed a pre-contract with Newcastle in 1997. He went through youth training making his debut in the reserves against Sunderland. Two years later, he made his first team in a home game against Chelsea.
Ameobi made 22 appearances for Newcastle that season standing for Alan Shearer and Carl Cort who were injured. He illustrated his performances in the 2002-03 Champions League when he equalized a goal against Barcelona at the Nou Camp.
He also scored two goals against Bayern Leverkusen, bearing in mind that he played most of the matches as a substitute.
In 2006-07, Ameobi needed a hip operation and since Newcastle was in a shortage of a striker, the then manager Glenn Roeder sent him for surgery two months before the transfer window.

It was not well as his expectations turned out on the worst. He played six games but never managed to score despite Stoke gaining promotion. Stoke did not sign him permanently and he returned to Newcastle.
In 2014, he signed for Gaziantep Buyuksehir Belediyespor on a one-year contract. However, he did not complete the one-year term basing his departure on family reasons, making 11 appearances and scoring 4 goals at the club.
In 2015, he got back to Premier League signing for Crystal Palace, and making his debut as a substitute in a match against Arsenal. Late October 2015, he signed a short-term contract with Bolton Wanderers being handed shirt number 26. In his debut, he came in as a substitute in a match against Leeds United. After his contract ended, he signed for Fleetwood Town until the end of the season.
