Douglas Costa began his journey football journey in his native Brazil, joining Gremio at the age of 11. He was promoted to Gremio’s senior team at the age of 18 and made his debut in a 2-1 victory over Botafogo on 4 October 2008. He scored his first professional goal in the match.
