Jan Vertonghen began his football journey in Belgium playing for the youth teams of VK Tielrode and Germinal Beerschot. After an impressive performance, he joined Ajax and spend three years playing for the club’s academy before being promoted to the senior team.
Vertonghen began his career at Ajax as a midfielder before becoming a regular centre-back. He spent a season on loan at RKC Waalwijk before his breakthrough at Ajax. During his time with the Dutch giants, Vertonghen won two Eredivisie titles and the KNVB Cup twice.
