Belgium battles a 3-2 win over Germany

Belgium beat Euro 2024 hosts Germany 3-2 last night in a friendly match to make it two wins from two under new coach Domenico Tedesco.

Belgium outclassed their opponents in the first half and took the lead through Yannick Carrasco after just six minutes. Romelu Lukaku then doubled his side’s lead barely three minutes later.

Niclas Fullkrug pulled one back for Germany from the penalty spot to reduce the gap before the break. However, Kevin De Bruyne made things difficult for the hosts as he increased Belgium’s lead to 3-1 in the 78th minute. Serge Gnabry scored Germany’s second in the 87th minute but it was only a consultation.

Kevin De Bruyne was the man of the match as he contributed in all the three goals scored by Belgium. The Manchester City midfielder assisted the first two goals before getting his own.

Belgium Beat Germany 

Germany, who beat Peru 2-0 on Saturday night in their first international match since World Cup exit, suffered their first loss of the year at RheinEnergieStadion.

Belgium completely outclassed them in the first half, attacking at will. They took the lead in the sixth minute after a superb five-pass move from deep their own half. Yannick Carrasco, the goalscorer, was unmarked and had lots of space on the left to open the scoring. With three first-choice central defenders out, a rattled Germany looked all but certain to concede a goal.

Belgium added a second one through Romelu Lukaku even before the noise from the stands had gone down. The goal was as a result of Germany’s woeful defending that led to Kevin De Bruyne getting the ball and passing it to Romelu Lukaku to finish from inside the box.

Whereas Kevin De Bruyne got his second assist of the night, Romelu Lukaku picked off from where he had left having scored a hat-trick in Belgium’s last fixture.

The introduction of Emre Can, who replaced the injured Leon Goretzka midway through the first half, brought some changes in the game. The home side became stable and were on board soon after Niclas Fullkrug converted a penalty kick before the end of the first half. The penalty was as a result of Romelu Lukaku’s handball inside the box.

Germany came pushing for another goal right from the start of the second half. However, Belgium’s defence proved to be solid.

Former Chelsea forward Timo Werner had a goal chalked off for offside before De Bruyne sealed the the win with 12 minutes left to play. Serge Gnabry gave Germany a reason to celebrate in the 87th minute but it was only a consolation as Belgium beat them 3-2 in the end.
