Thiago Silva was born on September 22, 1984, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. When he was a young boy, he attended a school in the neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro. It was a feeder school for Fluminense. Silva began his football journey as a defensive midfielder.
He impressed Fluminense coach during a match when he was 14 years old. As a result, he was given a short trial, which he passed. However, he struggled to get playing time and opted to join another team. 15-year-old Thiago Silva did trials at Flamengo, Olaria, Madureira and Botafogo but neither club accepted him.
Eventually, he settled at Barcelona, his hometown club. While playing for Barcelona, he impressed Paulo Cesar Carpegiani, who invited him to join RS Futebol.
Career
Thiago Silva began his professional career at RS Futebol in 2002. His strong performance with the club got the attention of Juventude, who signed him in 2004. That same year, he moved to Porto for a reported fee of 2.5 million Euros.
Thiago Silva spent one year in Portugal then joined Dynamo Moscow. During his time with the Russian club, he was hospitalized for six months after being diagnosed with TB. He decided to retire from football but his mother persuaded him to continue playing after recovery.
