Benson Omalla scored an 82nd minute winner as record FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia came from a goal down to beat Kenya Police FC 2-1 at the Kasarani Stadium on Saturday.
Police had started off strong with Elvis Rupia scoring, but Dennis Ng’ang’a restored parity for Gor before Omalla scored the winner.
“It was a really tough game for us, one of the toughest this season. We had a good second half and I really liked how we played. I am a bit disappointed in how we conceded because it was a typical Police goal and it was something we had talked about all week in our preparation,” said the Gor Mahia coach Jonathan McKinstry.
He added; “I am glad that we are moving. We do our talking on the pitch and the results are visible,”
His Police counterpart Francis Baraza was disappointed with the result. “Today we saw that we lack in abit of experience and calmness but once in a while, you face these kind of matches. It was a tough learning curve for us but we will have to look at our shortcomings and try improve,” he said.

Police had a brilliant start to the match and they got into the lead after 11 minutes when Rupia thumped a header unmarked from the edge of the six yard box.
A quick change of passes on the right saw Duke Abuya break through to float the ball into the area and Rupia made no mistake.
But, against the run of play, K’Ogalo drew level. Ng’ang’a rose up in the midst of a forest of bodies inside the box to head home from a John Macharia corner.
Police tried to get themselves back into the game after conceding from lack of proper mnarking in the box. They had some more chances, Abuya’s corner being headed wide by Lesley Otieno before Rupia shot straight at the keeper on the half hour mark.
Action limited to midfield

In the second half, the action was limited to the middle of the pack, with Police having chances off Rupia’s header that went over while Abuya had a shot snap wide.
But, with seven minutes left, Police were caught off with a traditional counter attack. Keeper Gad Mathews picked the ball from a corner, iommediately launched it forward to Boniface Omondi who was the lone man outside the box.
The winger then took on David Owino, landing him down before laying it for the sprinting Omalla to finish off.
With the result, Gor Mahia remain topo of the table with 37 points, four ahead of second placed Nzoia Sugar who were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Talanta. Police remained fourth with 28 points.
Ulinzi Stars meanwhile moved to ffifth after edging out relegation fighting Nairobi City Statrs 2-0 while Kakamega Homeboyz bounced back to winning ways with a 1-0 win over bottom side Vihiga Bullets.
