Daniil Medvedev won the Qatar Open final 2023 after defeating Andy Murray in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. It was a second title in less than a week for Daniil who won the Rotterdam Open last Sunday.

Andy Murray’s bid for a first ATP Tour title in over three years ended in disappointment as he lost to the Russian third seed. The Briton last won a title in 2019 at the European Open.

Murray had reached the Qatar Open final 2023 with four three-set wins, saving eight match points on his way. He had defeated Italian journeyman Lorenzo Sonego, French qualifier Alexandre Muller, German world number 17 Alexander Zverev and Czech star Jiri Lehecka.

However, he couldn’t stop Daniil Medvedev in the finals. Speaking after the match, Andy Murray said that it had been a great week as he managed to create great memories. However, he was disappointed things didn’t go his way.

“It was an incredible week, didn’t finish how I wanted but had some amazing matches, created great memories and it was fantastic to be back in the final against an incredible player. Daniil Medvedev faced just three opponents en route to the final. He overcame Britain’s Liam Broady and Australian Chris O’Connell before beating Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets on Friday.

How The Game Unfolded

Daniil Medvedev showed his intentions of winning the Qatar Open final 2023 as he took control of the contest early. Two breaks of serve guided him to a 4-1 advantage but Andy Murray was not letting it go easily as he fought back to move within 4-3.

Murray put his experience on display as he kept winning the vital points and avoiding errors. However, the Russian third seed remained composed and ended up winning the set. He sealed the set with an imperious service game in front of the crowd in Doha.

Daniil Medvedev carried his momentum into the second set, taking a 2-0 lead after breaking Andy Murray’s service game. The Brit would, however, bounce back with a good service game. Medvedev held his next serve before Murray bounced back to level things at 3-3.

Daniil Medvedev would then take a 4-3 lead, which turned out to be the turning point of the set. He tried his best to keep Murray away from the net and held serve before taking a 5-4 lead. Murray proved to be a fighter as he pushed Medvedev all the way to the final rally. However, he couldn’t stop the Russian from winning his seventeenth title.
