  • Salernitana hosted troubled Juventus in the Serie A on Tuesday night
  • Juventus came into this match winless in three consecutive matches and needed a comeback
  • Goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Kostic helped Juve bag all the three points

In a routine 3-0 victory against Salernitana on Tuesday, Dusan Vlahovic scored two goals and provided the other, helping Juventus get back on track in Serie A.

Although Massimiliano Allegri’s team had lost their previous three league games and were rattled by their 15-point deduction, they rebounded at Stadio Arechi with an impressive effort.

The visiting Bianconeri were on their way after Vlahovic’s penalty in the 28th minute, and just before halftime, the Serbian international provided a fortunate assist to fellow countryman Filip Kostic.

After 47 minutes, star player Vlahovic added his second goal, lifting the resurgent Juve up to 10th place, but still 13 points behind Lazio in fourth.

In an otherwise quiet start, Vlahovic headed an inviting Mattia De Sciglio cross over, but the striker made up for it shortly before the half-hour mark.

Hans Nicolussi, a Juve loanee, unnecessarily fouled Fabio Miretti inside the box, giving the visitors the chance to score, and Vlahovic blasted in from the spot with the aid of Guillermo Ochoa’s left post.

The second goal was scored at the back post by Kostic after Vlahovic wastedly missed the target and made a similar connection with a shoddy right-footed volley.

Following the break, Vlahovic added to his tally thanks to a deft Nicolo Fagioli through-ball, finishing coolly and low with his left foot past the charging Ochoa.

Juve emphatically restored to form, but Angel Di Maria’s fizzed shot ricocheted against the crossbar, and Moise Kean was stopped by Ochoa’s left post.

Juventus bounce back

Allegri had some concerns after Juve’s last three league games, which included a 3-3 draw with Atalanta, a 5-1 thumping by league leaders Napoli, and a 2-0 shock loss to Monza.

Allegri reminded the Bianconeri that in order to avoid an unlikely relegation, Juve must first reach the 40-point threshold after receiving a 15-point deduction as a result of an inquiry into prior transfer transactions.

Juve advanced to 26 points with a confident performance, but they still have a long way to go to qualify for Europe since they are 12 points behind Italy’s top six.

Vlahovic continues scoring streak against Salernitana

Vlahovic has now scored five goals in four league matches against Salernitana, with a brace for Fiorentina and three strikes for new club Juve, including his double in this game.

The first-half strike was Vlahovic’s 14th goal from the spot from 15 attempts in Serie A – the best success rate (93 per cent) among players to take 15 or more penalties in the competition since his debut in 2018.

Juve are at home to Fiorentina on Sunday, while Salernitana visit Hellas Verona the following day.
