Cristiano Ronaldo said he only “talks when he wants” and that his argument with Manchester United won’t affect his Portugal team’s performance at the World Cup.
Following Ronaldo’s negative interview with TalkTV, United is looking into its legal options in an effort to terminate Ronaldo’s employment with the team.
The 37-year-old Ronaldo claimed that he felt “betrayed by the club” and that he had “no respect” for Erik ten Hag as manager. He says that his timing is always the best and holds his own opinions.
“In my life, the best timing is always my timing. I don’t have to think about what other people think. I speak when I want. The players know me really well for many years and know the type of person I am,” BBC quotes him.
He said that his Portuguese team is eyeing success, and nothing will shake this dream.

“It’s an ambitious group that is hungry and focused. So I’m sure it [the interview] won’t shake the changing room’s concentration and focus.”
The five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or Portugal’s first Group H match is against Ghana on Thursday, and Ronaldo will be the captain. He says he’s feeling great now and ready to take Portugal to the World Cup finals.
Ronaldo has faith in winning the Qatar World Cup, saying he has unwavering faith in his home squad. They will play against Ghana in their first match, and they are hoping to set a good pace from the first game.
“I feel that this Portugal squad has amazing potential. I think we can win for sure, but we need to focus on the next game. So, it’s focusing in Ghana, get a win and go from there.
“We will see in the end who the best team is, but I believe Portugal is the best team in this World Cup. But we need to show it on the pitch.”
Meanwhile, Old Trafford contract, which pays him £500,000 per week, has just over seven months left on it, but United has the option of terminating it. In that case, the forward would be free to sign with another team when the transfer window opens in January.
He hasn’t played since leading United to a 3-1 loss at Aston Villa on November 6 due to an unidentified illness, but he claims to be healthy enough for his fifth World Cup.
Ronaldo, 37, criticised the team and manager Erik ten Hag in an interview with TalkTV on Sunday night. One of the biting issues is the apparent ‘no respect’ between Ten Hag and Ronaldo.
He talked of disrespect by Ten Hag. When he refused to be replaced at an Old Trafford match against Tottenham in October, the United manager put him on indefinite suspension.

Even worse, CR7 exited in the 89th minute and went to the tunnel, which made things worse for him. Ten Hag cited consulting with higher-ups in Manchester United’s decision-making process when he suspended him for a number of games.
Benching him brought more heat on him as fans came up divided, some supporting him while others cited that he was gunning for special treatment. And at the centre of it is Ten Hag.
However, a few days after this interview, ESPN reported that Ten Hag made it clear that he is not interested in having Ronaldo play for United again. After these reports, the Red Devils brought down a huge mural of the Portuguese at Carrington.
Ronaldo expected this. He told Morgan that a few people, Ten Hag included, wanted him out of Old Trafford. The controversy that this generated earned him more followers.
