Early Life 

Nick Pope biography states that he was born to David and Bridget Pope on April 19, 1992, in Soham, Cambridgeshire. 

Nick Pope was not into football as a small boy despite his parents being passionate lovers of the beautiful game. His parents made him a season ticket holder for Ipswich FC when he was just seven years old. 

Pope’s love for football eventually grew, and he joined Ipswich FC academy at the age of ten, where he developed dreams of making it big as a goalkeeper. 

He rose through the ranks like his most of the lads. However, Ipswich didn’t consider him after turning 16, and they released him. 

The development was heartbreaking to Nick Pope, who eventually got himself together and joined the non-league club Bury Town. 

The young goalkeeper made his first-team debut for Bury Town at the age of 16 and was a regular starter for the non-league side until his move to Charlton Athletic. 

Career 

Charlton Athletic

Nick Pope signed his first professional football contract in May 2011 after joining Charlton Athletic. 

The England international made his debut for Charlton Athletic on May 4, 2013, coming on as a substitute for David Button. His side secured a 4-1 win over Bristol City, who were already relegated in the Championship. 

Nick Pope committed his future to Charlton Athletic on June 5, 2014, when he signed a four-year contract with the English club. 

Loan Spells

Charlton Athletic loaned the young goalkeeper to Isthmian League Premier Division club Harrow Borough in August 2011. 

He spent one month with Harrow Borough, keeping three clean sheets and saving two penalties in 19 appearances. 

His parent club then loaned him to Welling United on a 28-day loan on December 21. 

Nick Pope then had loan spells at Cambridge United, Aldershot Town, York City and Bury before securing a permanent move to Burnley. 

Burnley

Nick Pope joined Burnley on July 19 2016, after the club had received a promotion to the Premier League.

He made his Premier League debut on September 10, replacing the injured Tom Heaton at half-time. Burnley won the match against Crystal Palace 1-0. 

Pope had a prolific 20119-20 season featuring in every Premier League campaign for Burnley. He came close to winning the Golden Glove, which was eventually won by Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.
