Tusker are now only one point behind Homeboyz with four rounds of matches left
If Homeboyz are deducted points from their Mathare game then Tusker move two points ahead
Homeboyz have never won the FKF PL
Tusker FC are now breathing on the necks of Kakamega Homeboyz after edging them out 2-0 in a crucial FKF Premier League match at the Ruaraka Complex on Sunday. The victory means Tusker are now one point behind Homeboyz, pending a decision on whether they will be deducted points from their second leg win over Mathare.
According to FKF rules, if a team is relegated in the middle of the second leg, then all teams which had played against them will forfeit points from the match if they had won. Homeboyz had already played against Mathare in the second leg and won.
If this rule is effected, then the lead on top of the table will change hands and Tusker will skip two points above Homeboyz, putting the title race squarely in their hands.
“We will fight till the end. We don’t want to know what happens with what game but for us we just want to win all our remaining matches. The focus from the boys is sharp and we are determined to defend our title,” said Tusker FC skipper Humphrey Mieno.
Tusker FC’s Shami Kibwana in action
On Sunday, Ibrahim Joshua and Deogratious Ojok scored a goal in either half to guide Tusker to the crucial win over Homeboyz, a game that was billed as a title determinant.
Tusker had a good start to the match with Shami Kibwana threatening early with a shot from range that went wide. Joshua had an opportunity when he stole the ball off a Homeboyz defender, but the keeper was quick off his line to block.
The brewers however broke the deadlock in the 21st minute when Joshua’s hunger pushed him to block a clearance off Brian Eshihanda after Shaphan Oyugi’s miscued header, leading to the opening goal.
The Tanzanian should have made it 2-0 a few minutes later when his header off an Isaac Kipyegon cross from the left went inches over.

In the second half, the visitors came with more pressure as they sought to equalize, but the backline anchored by Christopher Oruchum and Charles Momanyi did their best to thwart any danger. Substitute Michael Karamor almost scored for Homeboyz but his header in the 63rd minute came off the upright.
In the final quarter of the game though, Tusker improved their offensive pressure and substitute David Majak almost scored a second goal with a rasping shot from range which greased the bar on its way out.
Ojok, who had come off the bench, scored his eighth goal of the season and the second for the brewers with a nudge from close range after his initial header off a Kipyegon cross bounced off the keeper.
Meanwhile at the bottom of the table, Vihiga Bullets pulled themselves four points away from the automatic relegation zone after coming from 2-0 down to beat Kariobangi Sharks 4-3 a the Kasarani Annex.
