The Nairobi City Marathon 2022 edition went down this weekend with thousands of Athletes making their entry having a first-time feel on the newly constructed Nairobi Express Way.
The colorful marathon that is also believed to be a highly prized marathon was launched by His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta accompanied by Her Excellence First Lady Margaret Kenyatta at the Nyayo Stadium.
42 Km Race
The 42 Km race for both Men and Women was won by Brimin Misoi and Agnes Barsosio emerging victorious in their respective categories at the inaugural entry of the Nairobi City Marathon with Misoi clocking 2 hours 8 minutes and 30 seconds saw him win Ksh 6 Million Prize.
Top 3 winners of The Nairobi City Marathon Men’s 42 km race Brimin Misoi Richard Rop and Daniel Yator after winning the race
Richard Rop finished the race in the second position clocking 2:09.17 as Daniel Yator clocked 2: 10.15 finishing in the third position.
Barsosio won the women’s race, taking home a similar amount as Misoi’s after clocking 2:24.45 to finish ahead of Shyline Jepkorir who timed at 2:29.04 with Sharon Jemutai claiming third place in 2:29.37.
21 Km Race.
The men’s 21 Km race was won by Vincent Ngetich with Charles Yosei coming in the second position while
Geoffrey Kipyego took the third position
Irene Kamais led the women’s 21km race followed by Sophy Jepchirchir and Emily Chebet who finished in the second and third position respectively

10 Km Race
Langata Kipkurui led the Men’s category followed by Nelson Mandela and Richard Etir
Gladys chepkiuri, Viola Chepngeno, and Fridah Ndinda cruised the women’s 10km race in the first, second and third positions respectively
Winners in 10km earned Ksh172, 500 each with second and third place finishers receiving Ksh115, 000 and Ksh80, 000 respectively. There was no prize money for the five-kilometer race

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed said the Uhuru Classic Nairobi City Marathon has thrust Nairobi City into the league of world-famous destinations of city marathons such as New York, Tokyo, Chicago, and Berlin cities.
Amina thanked First Lady Margaret Kenyatta for her support, guidance, and acceptance to participate in the marathon, adding that Kenyans admired her commitment and support to sports in the country.
“Your Excellency, I speak for many Kenyans when I say they all admire your fitness, your passion for sports, and are always excited to watch you run. You have motivated many to start running,” Amina said.
The President of Athletics Kenya, Lt. General (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei, thanked President Kenyatta for supporting the marathon.
He described it as the highest paying marathon in Africa in which the first 20 winners of the 42 kilometers full marathon and the first six in the 21-kilometers Half Marathon received prizes.
Expressway Official Launch
During the same event, Uhuru announced that the Nairobi Expressway will be opened to the public for use on a trial basis this coming Saturday.

He also pointed out that Kenya’s position as one of the best sporting destinations in the world is buoyed by its renowned athletic talents and the infrastructure the Government has put in place.
“Yesterday, we were in Kasarani stadium at the Kipchoge Keino Classic which attracted world and Olympic champions, again because of the infrastructure that we have developed,” Uhuru said.
The event was also attended by among others, Cabinet Secretaries James Macharia and Margaret Kobia, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, and Sports Permanent Secretary Joe Okudo among other senior Government officials.
