Zimbabwe cruise to victory over Lesotho in Chan qualifier

Zimbabwe cruise to victory over Lesotho in Chan qualifier - Sports Leo

Prince Dube scored twice as Zimbabwe sealed a comfortable 3-1 victory over Lesotho in a first leg match of the final qualifying round for the 2020 African Nations Championship (Chan). The tie was played at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Sunday.

Zimbabwe are now in pole position to qualify for Chan, which will be held in Cameroon next year.

Dube was the hero for the home side, netting in each half, with Taderera Wellington coming off the bench to add the third.

For Lesotho, Hlompho Kalake scored a late consolation goal to give Lesotho some small hope going into the second leg match, to be played in Maseru next month.

Lesotho enjoyed a lot of ball possession but struggled to find a way past Zimbabwe’s organised defence.

Dube’s first goal saw Zimbabwe go into the break at 1-0 in an opening 45 minutes which failed to produce all that much in the way of scoring opportunities.

The second half proved to be a livelier affair as Dube got his second goal – a powerful header from a corner kick – and substitute Taderera made it safe at 3-0 for Zimbabwe with a superb strike.

Deep into injury time, Kalake scored from the spot for Lesotho and the away goal will provide them with a measure of hope ahead of the second leg.
