Wakiso Giants made a return to winning ways beating Mbarara City 3-1 at Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium, Wakiso.
Sam Ssenyonjo, Titus Ssematimba and Ivan Bogere netted the goals for the Purple Sharks while Charles Ssempa scored the visitors’ consolation.
The lads started well forcing several corner kicks but it wasn’t until the 20th minute that the deadlock was broken with Ssenyonjo heading home Joshua Lubwama corner.
The midfielder had earlier been denied by the woodwork from a free-kick.
Moments later, Ssenyonjo failed to double the lead from a penalty after Ibrahim Kasule was felled in the area.
There were chances to extend the lead before halftime but chances were put to waste.
After the break, Kasule combined well with Aliro and Ssematimba but the latter fired just wide.
The referee then awarded a penalty to Mbarara City which substitutes Ssempa converted to level matters in the 54th minute.
This prompted Coach Alex Gitta to withdraw midfielder Hassan Ssenyonjo for forward Ivan Bogere and later a double change with Tom Masiko and Shariph Kimbowa replacing right back Grant Matsiko and goal scorer Ssenyonjo.
Masiko then assisted Ssematimba’s second goal with a well-taken corner which Tito headed powerfully and Bogere put the icing on the cake with a belter from over 45 yards after he spotted goalie Martin Elungati off the line.
A win puts Wakiso Giants on 30 points in 7th position ahead of their next game away to UPDF on Tuesday, March 15.
