Ngwenya bemoans Green Mambas’ poor finishing in Champions League

eSwatini coach Caleb Ngwenya of the Green Mambas said they ‘had let their opponents Zambia’s Zesco United off the hook’ in their 2-0 defeat in a Caf Champions League preliminary round first-leg match at Mavuso Sports Centre in Manzini over the weekend.

“At this stage, we just remain hopeful to turn the tie around in Lusaka and for that to be possible we need to work on our finishing. We did not convert our chances into goals,” said Ngwenya.

Completing only their third unbeaten visit to eSwatini, the Zambia outfit needed a goal in each half to take a comfortable away to the home second-leg next week.

It took the visitors only nine minutes to break the ice when Kasumba Umaru put his team ahead with a cheeky connection to a long-searching pass from Jesse Were.

Handful Umaru then turned provider to the 53rd-minute-second goal with an inch-perfect pass which found John Chingandu who obliged with astute precision past Mkhulisi to steal away the tie and seemingly with its passage into the next round.
