South Africa’s Kevin Anderson pulls out of Rogers Cup

South Africa’s Kevin Anderson has had to pull out of the Rogers Cup in Montreal this week which is going to mean a further drop in his world ranking.

The tournament started on Monday.

Anderson recently went down to No 11 in the rankings and also had to miss last week’s Citi Open in Washington.

Now after nine consecutive appearances at the Rogers Cup, the 33-year-old has withdrawn due to the same knee injury which also caused him to miss out at Washington.

Anderson was due to play 29th-ranked Lucas Pouille (FRA) in the Montreal first round, but now Canadian Milos Raonic will be the man facing the Frenchman.

Anderson picked up his career-best result at the Rogers Cup last year when he made the semifinal.

His absence in Montreal will mean a further slump in his rankings drop as he will drop a significant number of points when the ATP list gets updated after Montreal.
