Kariobangi Sharks claimed their biggest ever Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League victory after thrashing a sorry 10-man Mathare United 6-0 over the weekend.
Sharks took full advantage after Meshack Muyonga was sent off for Mathare late in the second half to score five goals in the second half and claim bragging rights from the Slum Derby.
Felix Oluoch became the first player this season to score a hattrick in the league with Erick Mmata adding a brace after Steven Otieno’s third minute freekick had given Sharks the lead.
“It is a huge win for us and I am really happy for the team. It has taken team effort to have this kind of result. It is not everyday you will score six goals in a game and we have to be proud of what we have done. But at the same time, we need to ensure that we put this behind us and focus on the next match,” said William Muluya, the Kariobangi Sharks head coach.

His opposite number Ezekiel Akwana was dejected with the result and part blamed it on the red card which he called harsh and his players’ poor performance on the afternoon.
“The red card was not legit. Yes it was a foul but not one that warranted a red card because Meshack was not the last man in defense when he fouled. It really distorted our plans and after the red card, we couldn’t cope,”
“Also, my players were not at their best because we made simple mistakes with our passing and pressing. We gave them too much space to play their passes and that killed us,” said Akwana.
He added; “But we have taken the lessons. This is football and such things happen. We cannot cry over it but instead learn and move on,” said the tactician.

Sharks were off to a good start in the game and Otieno struck them into a third minute lead with a brilliant freekick from the right side.
They kept dominating the game with Mathare finding no answers to get themselves level. They were reduced to 10 men in the 44th minute when Muyonga was red carded for a foul from 35 yards out after trying to win the ball back when they had cheaply lost possession.
From the resultant freekick, Patillah Omotto played an intelligent pass out wide to Fortune Omotto, but the latter’s shot from the left was well saved by Job Ochieng in the Mathare goal.
In the second half, Sharks took full advantage with Oluoch scoring two goals in three minutes. He made it 2-0 in the 57th minute with a sidefooted finish from Omotto’s cross before he doubled his tally with another calm finish on the half volley inside the box after substitute Mmata nodded down Douglas Mokaya’s cross for him.

Mmata then had a goal for himself to make it 4-0 a minute later with Mathare in Shambles. Oluoch completed his hattrick in the 66th minute when he finished off and intricate move with a low shot from inside the box.
Sharks completed the rout with 16 minutes to play, Mmata adding on his second of the afternoon with a simple side foot finish on the right after driving into the box when Mathare lost possession again.
Meanwhile, Kakamega Homeboyz moved joint top of the standings with a 3-2 victory over newly promoted Vihiga Bullets in Kakamega. They are on 12 points, same as Bandari FC who sit top on goal difference after they beat FC Talanta 3-0 in Mombasa.
Abdallah Hassan scored a sublime brace, including a belter of a curled effort from distance as William Wadri added the third.
