Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has spoken of Tuesday’s defining game with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) saying that “it is impossible to control Lionel Messi for 90 minutes”.
The six-time Ballon d’Or secured PSG’s first goal during the Champions League clash with City at Parc des Princes.
It was his first goal for PSG in his first four appearances for the French Ligue 1 club.

Messi finally sent the ball to the net in an intriguing fashion during his fourth appearance for PSG. The Argentine took a magical sprint from halfway to the line playing tactically with Kylian Mbappe and shot the ball at 20 yards.
With PSG’s 2-1 win over City, Guardiola says that City did it best but with Messi in the equation, it was hard to take a win.
“We dealt with PSG first of all, but we know it’s impossible to control Leo for 90 minutes,” he stated.
Though Messi stunned with the goal on the 74th minute, it was a brave show having come back from an injury.
Before this Champions League battle, there was a lot of pessimism on whether Messi’s injury would allow him back to the pitch.
And Guardiola is aware that without an injury, Messi is completely unstoppable when he gets the ball.
“He was not much in touch with the ball – of course he was coming back from injury, he needed a bit of rhythm – but we know quite well when he can run and get close to the ball, he is unstoppable.”
Nonetheless, Guardiola was content with his team’s performance at Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.
But, he adds that City played a good game but failed to score as much as they should have which is why they lost victory to PSG.
