Naomi Osaka Calm After Western & Southern Open Defeat

Although tennis star player Naomi Osaka suffered a humiliating defeat on Thursday from Jil Teichmann, she can sleep.

Jil thrashed Osaka 3-6 6-3 6-3 on the court in the Western & Southern Open.

However, Osaka says that she is at peace with the defeat because she did her best.

This, she said is comforting and she can now sleep well at night despite the loss.

Osaka, 23, hasn’t featured much in the court in recent months after her withdrawal from French Open early in the year.

While explaining why she opted to walk away from French Open, she said that her mental health is at stake.

Her brave show at the Cincinnati Open brought back hope for her fans who miss her action in the game.

Speaking to the press shortly after the game, Osaka added that she felt hesitant at the beginning of the game. And this was highly unusual for her.

“I thought that, for me, I felt a bit hesitant, and normally I don’t feel that way,” CNN reports.

Osaka’s comeback is rough having left the Tokyo Olympics in the third round.

This may have affected her performance in Cincinnati and she hypothesizes that this may have made her “a little nervous”.

“I also thought that my performance in Tokyo was also lingering in my mind a bit because I felt like I was overly aggressive there.”

She further owns up to taking a personal decision to stay off the court in several matches and she was comfortable with it all.

The break made her feel confident and trust her skills because there were moments before when she doubted herself.

“I put myself in this position by choosing not to play that many tournaments, so, yeah, just feeling more comfortable with it, feeling more confident in myself, as well, because I feel like there were times where I was doubting myself.”

On August 15, she thanked her fans for watching her during practice ahead of her game with Jil.

“Thank you to everyone that stayed and watched my practice at @CincyTennis. I was really nervous cause it was my first practice in front of a lot of people since COVID started but it was really nice to see everyone again,” her tweet read.
