  • This follows rising concerns about his physical form
  • He recently underwent a knee surgery after pulling out of the French Open

Novak Djokovic Paris Olympics 2024 dream is in limbo following rising concerns about his physical form.

He didn’t stay long at the French Open 2024 as many expected him to. The Serbian had to withdraw from the second Grand Slam of the year due to an injury to his knee.

There were mixed signals among his fans in the lead-up to Roland Garros considering how tough the ATP Tour 2024 season has been for him.

He unsuccessfully defended his 2023 Australian Open victory this year in Melbourne thereby handing Jannik Sinner his first Grand Slam victory.

Novak Djokovic Paris Olympics 2024 Participation

Following an injury to his knee in May when playing at Roland Garros, Novak Djokovic Paris Olympics participation is questionable.

He was set to play against Casper Ruud in the tournament’s quarterfinal match but he pulled out due to intense pain in his knee.

The Serb was left with no choice other than having surgery to repair his medial meniscus which tore at Roland Garros.

According to the Guardian, the 24-time Grand Slam champion had a successful surgery in early June.

He expressed optimism about a quick recovery and getting back on the court as he chose a mode of treatment that he would easily recover from.

Djokovic opted for a stimulated hyperbaric treatment plan that would allow him to heal faster.

Besides the surgical procedure to repair the torn medial meniscus, hyperbaric medicine complements his recovery.

Essentially, it involves the use of oxygen therapy to spur the recovery of the injured knee by targeting the affected muscle or bone.

With the surgery, he is hopeful that he will recover in time to represent Serbia at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games starting in July.

Is Djokovic Fully Recovered?

The world No. 3 has made a huge recovery since his surgery a fortnight ago. Serbian publication, The Informer reported on Wednesday morning that he is walking without clutches unlike a week ago.

In a photo he posted a week ago on his Instagram page, Djokovic had a pair of clutches to aid in his movement.

However, a week later, he has gotten rid of them and is walking comfortably, although with a slight limp.  His speedy recovery is largely due to his oxygen therapy treatment plan.

Indicative of his zeal to play in Paris, he stated that he gets inspiration to be better from his deep love in playing tennis at the highest level.

Should he recover fully before the start of the Olympic Games, it will mark his fifth time to participate in the games.

He hasn’t missed a single participation since his debut at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 where he won a bronze medal.

The subsequent Olympic Games in London, Rio and Tokyo weren’t as great because he has never won any medal.

His hope from his past pronouncements is to win an Olympic gold medal to sum up his tennis career.  The father of two asserted that he has achieved most of his goals in the ATP calendar.

However, his desire to add a new chapter to his legacy by winning a gold medal in the Olympics burns deep.

Tennis pundits state that his commitment to recovery before the start of the Paris games is fully driven by his push to write a new record in tennis.

Currently, Djokovic holds the highest number of Grand Slam titles at 24 in the Open era. In contrast, he only has a bronze medal out of his four participations as an Olympian.

Thus, 2024 will give him another chance to win a gold medal with guidance from his new coach Nenad Zimonjic.

The 2024 ATP Tour season is the hardest in his career so far. He has lost all the matches he has played since January at the Australian Open.

He changed his coach – formerly coached by Goran Ivanisevic  –  but there hasn’t been any victory hitherto.
