France forward Kylian Mbappe has officially joined La Liga club Real Madrid after spending six years at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Mbappe’s dream has always been to play for Real Madrid and after failing to secure transfer to the Spanish giants in the previous transfer windows, his dream has finally come to pass. The 25-year-old agreed to the transfer early this year in February and then announced in May that he will be leaving PSG at the end of the 2023/24 season.

On Monday evening, it was confirmed by Real Madrid that the 2018 World Cup winner had signed with the club. He penned down a five-year contract that will see him earn £12.8 million annually after all taxes have been deducted. BBC Sport reports that he will be given a signing bonus of £128 million, which will be paid to him in installments for a period of five years.

Real Madrid confirmed on their website that Kylian Mbappe is officially a player for the club starting this summer. This means that the lethal forward will represent France at the Euros tournament as a Real Madrid player alongside teammate Eduardo Camavinga.

Mbappe published a statement on his social media pages saying how excited he is to join the Los Blancos.

“A dream come true. So happy and proud to join the club of my dreams, Real Madrid. Nobody can understand how excited I am right now. Can’t wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support. Hala Madrid!” The message from his official X account reads. He also posted photos of him as a child wearing a Real Madrid kit.

Mbappe’s arrival at Santiago Bernabeu could mean that Real’s dominance in Europe is not going to stop anytime soon. He joins the La Liga giants just two days after they won the UEFA Champions League trophy at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

The prospect of him lining up alongside the likes of Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Rodrigo and Endrick makes Real Madrid one of the most lethal teams in history.

Kylian Mbappe joins Real Madrid after scoring 256 goals for PSG, making him the Parisians’ all-time leading goalscorer. He scored 44 goals in 48 matches last season and has been winning the Ligue 1 Golden Boot consistently for the past six seasons.

Mbappe won all domestic titles at club level with PSG, but could not help them clinch the UEFA Champions League which has always been the main target every season. He led the Parisians to the semi-final of the 2023/24 season where they were knocked out by Borussia Dortmund.

What Jersey Will Kylian Mbappe Wear At Real Madrid?

Kylian Mbappe’s preferred jersey has always been number seven. But since that has been taken by Vinicius Junior, the Frenchman has chosen the number ten shirt which he has become synonymous with at international level.

However, he will have to wait for another one year before taking the jersey number 10 as it currently occupied by Luka Modric. The veteran midfielder is expected to sign a one-year contract extension which means he will stay at the club until the summer of 2025. This means that France international will be Real Madrid’s number 10 from the start of the 2025/26 season.

Goal reports that for the 2024/25 season, Mbappe will wear jersey number 9 which was made famous at Real Madrid by Alfredo Di Stefano. The 25-year-old has done just like Ronaldo who put on the number 9 shirt in his initial season at Santiago Bernabeu waiting for legend Raul to vacate his favourite number 7.
