We know why you’re here. You probably want to find out if a player from your team is included on the list of the worst Premier League signings of the just concluded 2023/24 season.

Manchester City won the Premier League title on the final day of the season after a long battle with Arsenal and Liverpool for the top spot throughout the campaign. Even though the Gunners failed to capture the title, their fans are obviously impressed with how they played throughout the campaign.

Kai Havertz and Declan Rice played a significant role in the Gunners impressive run throughout the campaign even though it was their first season at the club. Whereas they turned out to be reliable signings, other players in the Premier League who secured transfers last summer didn’t bring the desired impact to their new clubs.

With that said, let’s take a look at the worst Premier League signings of last season.

Sandro Tonali

After making a name for himself playing in the Serie A, Sandro Tonali was acquired by Newcastle United for a whopping £60 million last summer. The Italian is the most expensive signing in Newcastle’s history and was expected to prove his worth playing alongside Bruno Guimaraes at St James’ Park.

However, he only played 692 minutes before being served with a ten-month ban for breaking Italian gambling regulations during his time with Milan. His absence has really cost Newcastle in a season which they played European football and struggled with injuries.

Tonali is one of the worst Premier League signings of last season not because he is a poor footballer but because he hasn’t been there when Newcastle needs him.

Mason Mount

Mason Mount was one of the players who made headlines during the 2023 summer transfer window. His big move from Chelsea to Manchester United was expected to bear fruits but it hasn’t worked. United fans are yet to see the England international in action for consecutive games as he has struggled with injuries throughout the campaign.

The Red Devils signed Mount for £60 million and will be hoping that he becomes a key contributor next season. Manchester United are planning to release several players but Mount could survive the axe considering the amount paid for him and the fact that he hasn’t had the time to show his quality.

Ansu Fati

Ansu Fati was dubbed the Lionel Messi after emerging from FC Barcelona’s La Masia academy. In fact, he was given the number ten jersey Messi used to wear during his time at Barcelona.

However, injuries have made it difficult for Fati to play regularly, something which has led to his loss form. He was loaned to Brighton in January and despite arriving with a bang, scoring two goals in his first five games, injuries struck again, affecting his progress. Fati is one of the worst Premier League signings of the just concluded season.

Kalvin Phillips

Kalvin Phillips was one of the hottest names during the 2022 summer transfer window. He joined the Cytizens for a reported initial fee of £42 million, which could rise to £45 million. However, things didn’t pick for him at Man City and he spent majority of his time at the club as a bench player.

With the arrival of Mateo Kovacic making it difficult for him to even get a little playing time, he opted to sign with West Ham United in an attempt to save his dying career. Unfortunately, two big errors against Bournemouth and Manchester United in his first matches saw David Moyes lose faith in him. He only played 319 minutes at West Ham and it’s very unlikely that the Hammers will sign him on a permanent deal.

Matheus Nunes

Matheus Nunes, one of the worst signings of the 2023-24 season, arrived at Manchester City last summer for £53 million. City fans were excited about his signing and wanted to see him in action, especially after Pep Guardiola called him one of the best players in the world.

But just like Phillips, Nunes has been a bench player at the Etihad Stadium. Nevertheless, it was his first season and we could see him play more next season.
