Chelsea have now won a record five consecutive league trophies and Saturday’s triumph saw manager Emma Hayes get the decent send-off she deserves. Let’s take a look at five games that determined Chelsea winning the Women’s Super League.

The Manchester City vs Chelsea game played on 8 October 2023 is one of the most memorable matches of the just concluded season. City took the lead against the defending champions inside seven minutes but what followed was pure drama.
Alex Greenwood was sent off in the first half for time wasting while already on a yellow card. Chelsea used the opportunity to press City and found the equalizer against the Citizens who finished the match with nine players as Lauren Hemp was also sent off by the referee. This match showed how City were willing to keep Chelsea on their toes in the race for the title.
2. Chelsea Vs Liverpool (5-1)
On 18 November 2023, Lauren James starred as Chelsea thumped Liverpool 5-1 at Stamford Bridge. The 22-year-old brought her World Cup form to this match and scored a stunning hat-trick while also assisting one goal. She is one of the players who really stepped up as top stars Sam Kerr, Millie Bright and Mia Fishel struggled with injuries throughout the campaign.

3. Chelsea Vs Arsenal (3-1)
The Chelsea vs Arsenal clash was another game that was memorable due to drama. It all started by a delay in kick-off time because Arsenal had brought the wrong socks to Stamford Bridge. The match was delayed for 30 minutes and Chelsea, aiming to take revenge for the 4-1 humiliation at Emirates Stadium earlier in the season, went in front inside 15 minutes.
Surprisingly, Emma Hayes’ side were 3-0 up after just 32 minutes. The visitors pulled one goal back but Chelsea ended up securing a crucial 3-1 win in the race for the Women’s Super League title.
4. Chelsea Vs Bristol City (8-0)
Chelsea were very determined to defend their Women’s Super League title. However, City were giving them a tough challenge in the title race.
On 5 May, the Citizens were leading 1-0 in the 88th minute against Arsenal. However, substitutes Stina Blackstenius scored two late goals to help Arsenal secure a crucial 2-1 win. The victory motivated Chelsea who then went ahead and thumped Bristol City 8-0.
Guto Reiten opened the scoring in the sixth minute and then went ahead to score four goals. Aggie Beever-Jones scored a brace in the match which Sjoeke Nuksen and Niahm Charles also found the back of the net. With three points at home and a significant goal difference, the title race shifted to Chelsea’s way.

5. Manchester United Vs Chelsea (0-6)
After Manchester United won the Women’s FA Cup final by thrashing Tottenham Hotspur 4-0, many were expecting them to give Chelsea a difficult time at Old Trafford. However, the Blues, aiming to give manager Emma Hayes a memorable send-off on the final day of the season, ended up crushing the Red Devils 6-0 in front of almost 30,000 fans.
It was not only Hayes’ final game at Chelsea but also Fran Kirby who was on the scoresheet. Meanwhile, Mayra Ramirez made her return from injury by putting an amazing show at Old Trafford.
