  • Tottenham Hotspurs are targeting forward Hudson-Odoi in this summer transfer
  • They have several players leaving the club and he is a suitable replacement
  • He has been a contributor at Nottingham with 8 goals this season

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in bringing winger Callum Hudson-Odoi to the club this summer, after rejecting a chance to sign him last summer.

The 23-year-old was signed by Nottingham Forest in September 2023 from Chelsea, on a three-year deal that would keep him in the club till the summer of 2026.  During his tenure at Chelsea, the winger made over 120 appearances and won the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.

He had a 16-year bond with Chelsea having progressed through their youth academy, and then to their senior team. At his youth level, he won two FA Youth Cups and a U18 Premier League title and was also part of the England U17 squad that won the FIFA World Cup.

After his debut for Chelsea, he played 72 games in the Premier League and 23 in the UEFA Champions League, making 21 appearances during a loan spell with Bayer Leverkusen.

Transfer speculation to Tottenham Hotspur

After rejecting a chance to sign Hudson last summer, Tottenham Hotspur has shown interest in signing the winger who is currently playing for Nottingham Forest, where he has had a challenging season.

Tottenham has several players who are departing at the end of this season and they are looking for potential candidates to fill the vacant positions, one of them being Hudson-Odoi. He has a successful story at Chelsea and this could be the reason they are manhunting him.

His play style is one of the most appealing factors a club could be looking for in their attacking system and despite his lack of immediate achievements at Nottingham Forest, he has the potential to play in the Premier League focusing on his ability.

However, his contract at Nottingham Forest will be expiring in 2026 and they could be reluctant to sell him and their willingness to negotiate could be a key factor.

Hudson’s playstyle

The winger is very skilled when it comes to dribbling and this is his strongest asset. He uses both feet to beat defenders and create space for himself and his teammates. He can play either as a right or left winger and this makes it easy for him to adapt to the game.

Being two-footed makes him unpredictable for defenders and is not afraid to try tricks and skills to unlock defenses. He also likes to take on defenders and drive at the heart of the defense and his passing of the ball is an important aspect of his game.

Nottingham Forest impact on Hudson’s transfer

If Hudson transfer speculations become a reality, letting him go for Nottingham will be a loss of talent and Premier league experience. Though he hasn’t fully found his form, his potential on the wing is clear.

Nottingham will be expected to find an immediate replacement for their attacking defense and with his transfer, this might affect the morale of other players who might see it as lack of ambition from the club.

Looking at the transfer in a positive view, Nottingham might get additional resources from his sale to invest in other areas of the squad and this will allow them to improve in their overall performance.

His sale could also free up a significant amount of salary from the club’s payroll and they could bring in a player who will be a better fit for the current system. The amount that Tottenham is willing to pay and the funds will determine the overall impact on the team.

Hudson-Odoi challenges in his career

The winger has in the previous seasons had a history of injuries that kept him away from the pitch for a couple of games  including Achilles tendon problems and knee injuries.

During the coronavirus pandemic, he contracted the disease and that made him the first Premier league player to test positive for Covid-19 in March 2020. However, he recovered well and posted a video ensuring his fans of his health.
