Moyes announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of this season
David Moyes, West Ham United manager has officially announced his exit from the club at the end of this season, as his contract expires at that time. West Ham had initially thought of extending his contract, but Moyes expressed his desire to wait for the season to end, before making his final decision.
David Moyes took over his managerial role at West Ham when the club was in the relegation zone in 2017 and left the following season because his contract was not renewed. However, after one year, they called him back and in this period, he led his team to winning the Europa Conference League.
His comeback in 2019 was a true success as he rescued the team from relegation twice, secured European football for the first time in decades, and delivered their first major trophy in over four decades.
In this season, 2023-24, it has not been easy for West Ham as they have struggled for consistency in the Premier League. While they made it to the Europa League quarter-finals, their form dipped.
Through a mutual agreement, Moyes and the club decided to part ways at the end of the season as his contract expires. This could be due to the club’s inconsistency and maybe Moyes also wants to have a fresh challenge in another club.

His career journey began as a player with Icelandic club IBV and then returned to Scotland where he secured a place with Celtic and even earned a championship medal while playing for the club.
Since then, he has played for several other clubs in England like Cambridge United, Bristol City, Shrewsbury Town, Dunfermlinr Athletic and Preston North End. While still playing, he realized that he had more to offer than just playing.
This led him to obtain coaching badges when he was 22 years and soon, an opportunity arose for Preston North End, his former club that he also captained. The club was facing relegation threats but Moyes secured their Premier League promotion.
Two years later, he took over the helm at Everton, another club that was also on a relegation threat and he led them to the Premier League by the end of the season. His impact was immediate and secured consistent top-seven finishes, this being the highest ever Premier league finish and a Champions League qualification followed.
He managed Everton for eleven seasons and in that span, he was recognized as the League manager of the Year three times. Seeking a new challenge, he left Everton after he was appointed Manchester United’s coach, succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson.
However, his tenure at Manchester United was not productive as the team struggled to meet expectations and after ten months, he left the club. He sought another challenge in Spain with Real Sociedad for one year, then returned to England and took over Sunderland.
