This extension will see him at Texan until the 2027 season and it has proved that he is valuable, allowing him to build on a championship.
Collins career journey

During his college career, he caught 78 passes for 1,388 yards and 13 touchdowns and in his sophomore year, he led the team in receiving 7 touchdowns and 19.7 yards.
In the same year, he was named Offensive Player of the Year, with his most outstanding performance coming against Indiana. He also played in a run-heavy offence at Michigan.
He was drafted by the Houston Texans in the 3rd round with the 89th overall of the 2021 NFL draft. In his rookie season, he played a backup role which was a learning field with flashes of potential hinting.
In 2022, he got a starting role which was a result of injuries from other players, increasing his playing time. In the following year, he had a breakout season leading the Texans in receiving with a stellar 80 receptions for 1,297 yards and 8 touchdowns.
His stellar play led to Texans return to the playoffs and this earned him his recent three-year-contract extension.
What prompted the Texans to the three-year contract extension?
Offering the 25-year-old a contract extension was based on several reasons. His breakout year in 2023 played a major role in this. When he got the opportunity for a starting role, he seized it and emerged as a star, leading his team in receiving 80 receptions for 1,297.
This kind of performance is what the team was looking for to get their future titles. The team is aiming at building a competitive offence around their recently acquired wide receiver Stefon Diggs. With the duo, the team has reliable weapons in future.
At the age of 25, Collins has the potential to break into an elite receiver if he puts in more effort. He was to begin his free agency next year but with the extension, the Texans are guaranteed of their offense until 2027 when his contract will expire.

The contract is worth $75 million with a guaranteed amount of $52 million.
This puts him at the list of the top-10 paid receivers in the league and this reflects his current value. However, it is a risk for the team because his development is not guaranteed. Overall, they are more focused on his potential hoping to build a winning offense around him and secure his future with the team.
What does the future hold for Collins?
With his present situation, he is likely to continue refining his skills to becoming a dominant force in the NFL. He is still very young and as he continues aging, he could become a leader on his team’s offense on and off the field and he is an inspiration to the upcoming players. The Texans commitment to his contract signifies what they expect in return.
