Manchester City star Phil Foden has been voted the 2023/24 Premier League Player of the Season
Meanwhile, Chelsea youngster Cole Palmer received Premier League’s Young Player of the Season award
Manchester City star Phil Foden has been voted the 2023/24 Premier League Player of the Season. The 23-year-old has won the prestigious award for the first time in his career after enjoying his best-ever season in the Premier League.
Foden has been a key player for Manchester City this season scoring 17 league goals and assisting seven. His goal contribution this campaign is 25 in 34 league matches and he has played the second-most minutes of any Manchester City outfield player.

The only City player who has scored more goals than Foden this season in the Premier League is Erling Haaland, who took his tally to 27 on Tuesday night as Pep Guardiola’s side beat Tottenham Hotspur to go top of the table. Haaland, who won the prize last year, was one of the nominees for the Premier League Player of the Season.
Speaking after receiving his award, Foden said that he was proud of the achievement.
“To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of. The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs.” Sky Sports quotes Phil Foden.
The 23-year-old player also said that he was happy with the way he has played this season and acknowledged the role of City’s coaching staff and teammates in his success.
Foden adds the award to his individual accolades which includes the FWA Men’s Footballer of the Year which he won at the start of this month. The England international won the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season award in 2021 and 2022.
The nominees for this season’s Premier League Player of the Season were named on May 9. Apart from Foden and Haaland, the other players on the list were Virgil Van Dijk (Liverpool), Martin Odegaard (Arsenal), Declan Rice (Arsenal) Alexander Isak (Newcastle United), Cole Palmer (Chelsea) and Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa).
Even though the season will be coming to an end on Sunday when all teams play their final matches, fans started voting for the player that impressed the most this campaign early. The votes from the public were combined with those of a panel to of football experts which includes all-time leading Premier League goalscorer Alan Shearer and former goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer to determine the winner.
Palmer Voted Young Player of the Season
Meanwhile, Chelsea youngster Cole Palmer received Premier League’s Young Player of the Season award. The Chelsea playmaker, who recently turned 22, topped a shortlist of eight nominees which included Manchester City duo Phil Foden and Erling Haaland, Arsenal’s youngsters Bukayo Saka and William Saliba, Kobbie Mainoo of Manchester United, Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, and Destiny Udogie from Tottenham.
Palmer has had an amazing debut campaign for Chelsea having arrived at Stamford Bridge before the closure of the 2023 summer transfer window. The attacking midfielder has so far contributed 32 goals this season, which is the joint-most of any player in the England’s top flight.

Palmer is Premier League’s second-highest goalscorer this season with 22 goals after Haaland. He also ranks second on the list of assists, having set up ten goals so far with one game left to play before the end of the campaign.
To sum it up, he is one of the only four players in the Premier League who have reached double figures for both goals and assists. The others are Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Anthony Gordon and Watkins.
