Who is Novak Djokovic coach now following Goran Ivanisevic’s exit in March? The man taking on the mantle is none other than Nenad Zimonjic. He took over in April 2024 as Djokovic’s coach.

Ivanisevic coached the Serbian tennis star from 2019 and stuck with him five years later. He was one of the brilliant minds standing behind Djokovic during the Covid-19 pandemic which was the most difficult in his tennis career. It started with him being deported from Australia in 2021 over his unvaccinated status.

The world No. 1 later missed a dozen tournaments in the US including Miami Open, Indian Wells and the US Open for two years. His return was, however, big in 2023; he won three Grand Slams except Wimbledon which Carlos Alcaraz won. But things changed last season and Ivanisevic noted their working relationship changed.

He left in March 2024 and Djokovic picked Zimonjic as his new coach although he worked with the rest of his coaching team.

Goran Ivanisevic quit his role as Djokovic’s coach in March 2024. Ivanisevic claimed that things became frosty after the 2023 Wimbledon. The Serbian lost to Alcaraz in a historical match and this did not sit well with him according to his former coach.

“It wasn’t now in America, I mean, it never really “occurred”. I first noticed the feeling, if I’m being completely honest, last year in America. But that Wimbledon, of course the player is always most affected,” Ivanisevic said in an interview with Bleacher Report.

The 24-time Grand Slam won the Cincinnati Masters and the 2023 US Open despite losing Wimbledon that season. Still, his relationship with his coach did not change much and it ‘worsened’ ahead of the 2024 Indian Wells. Ivanisevic indicated that it was now clear was unwanted in Djokovic’s coaching team.

Despite their splitting, Ivanisevic enjoyed the five years he worked as a coach for the Serbian. He said that they also had an amazing off-court friendship but as days went by, Djokovic hid the fact that he needed a coach.

Nenad Zimonjic answers who is Novak Djokovic coach now. He started coaching Djokovic as the head coach in April 2024. The 2024 ATP Tour hasn’t been rosy so far for the top seeded tennis player. He remains trophyless yet and his change of guard was likely informed by this realization.

Consequently, Zimonjic is no stranger to the world No. 1; he is from Belgrade as Djokovic. He is a retired Serbian tennis player who excelled in doubles. Zimonjic stopped playing competitive tennis and started coaching after exiting the pro tennis phase.

Throughout the course of his incredible 20-year tennis career, he won four Grand Slam championships and became the top player in the world in doubles. He is best remembered by tennis fans from the past for his incredible doubles abilities, which included a strong serve, skillful net play, and tactical acumen. He had great success working with Daniel Nestor and Mahesh Bhupathi, among other doubles partners.

In his prime, he gave tennis his all, and he still benefits from this now as the top player in the Open. He wasn’t popular since turning pro in 1995 as only Serbians knew him. However, the 2004 Australian Open mixed doubles changed everything and he became famous.

Zimonjic overcame Leander Paes and Martina Navratilova in straight sets in two hours and 30 which was historical. Paired with his Slovenian doubles partner Katarina Srebotnik, they defeated Daniel Nestor and Elena Likhovtseva to win the 2006 French Open.

At the 2006 Wimbledon Championships, Zimonjić and Fabrice Santoro from France made it to the men’s doubles final and the mixed doubles quarterfinals. Further, the French tennis coach paired with Fabrice Santoro and proceeded to the 2006 Wimbledon quarterfinals. The 48-year-old decided to pursue a coaching career after quitting professional tennis. He has frequently stated that he enjoys using his vast knowledge and experience to mentor the upcoming generation of athletes.

WHY DID DJOKOVIC SPLIT WITH IVANISEVIC?

Both Ivenisevic and Djokovic have remained non-committal to what led to their split. However, the ex-coach dropped hints that Djokovic needed a new coach after his Wimbledon loss last. He admitted that he was also at a point where he had nothing more to offer the Serbian.
