The Man United vs Arsenal clash was one of the biggest Premier League fixtures played this weekend. Arsenal secured a vital 1-0 win at Old Trafford, a horrible ground in their history, to return to the top of the Premier League table.

The Gunners had lost the top spot to reigning champions Manchester City on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s side thumped Fulham 4-0. Mikel Arteta’s side are leading the way as things stand with 86 points and have one game left to play.

Manchester City, who are considered favourites to win this season’s title race, have 85 points and two matches left to play before the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Manchester United‘s miserable campaign continued as they allowed Arsenal to record a second victory at Old Trafford in their last 17 meetings. The Red Devils currently sit eighth on the standings with 54 points, three points behind seventh-placed Chelsea.

How The Man United Vs Arsenal Game Unfolded

Sunday was a big day for Manchester United supporters as the women’s side faced Tottenham Hotspur in the Women’s FA Cup final while Erik ten Hag and his men had a big task ahead of them against title challengers Arsenal.

Whereas the women’s team recorded victory and won their first ever major trophy, the struggles of the men’s team continued.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made no change to his team for the fourth straight match. On the other hand, Erik ten Hag made three changes to his team that suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace, with Sofyan Amrabat, Scott McTominay and Amad Diallo being included into the starting XI. United’s injury crisis saw Bruno Fernandes miss a second consecutive match and Casemiro partnering with Jonny Evans at the heart of defence.

Despite the struggles, Erik ten Hag’s men started the Man United vs Arsenal game on a high note causing chaos on Arsenal’s defence. Rasmus Hojlund had a golden opportunity to give the Red Devils the lead inside five minutes but the Dane somehow lost his footing with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Amad Diallo was brilliant and it looked as if United were going to score first before Arteta urged his players to calm down. What followed was shift in momentum and the only goal of the match scored by Belgian forward Leandro Trossard.

Casemiro has not been good enough playing as a centre-back and his slow jog kept Kai Havertz onside in the build-up to the goal. Havertz had an easy time against Evans before squaring the ball to Trossard for an easy finish in the box. The former Brighton man, who has started just 17 out of 37 Premier League games for Arsenal this season, proved to be a key player in Arteta’s squad as he scored a very important goal.

Arsenal remained in control of the proceedings after the goal but were almost caught as Diallo danced his way into the box with the ball before being brought down by Thomas Partey. There were appeals for a penalty as a result of Partey’s challenge but the referee waved play on.

Alejandro Garnacho tried creating chances down the flank but Ben White and William Saliba were solid enough to ensure the Gunners were leading at half-time. Despite United being in control at the start of the second half, they failed to break Arsenal’s defence.

With time running out, it was Andre Onana who was kept busier as he made fantastic saves to deny Gabriel Martinelli and Declan Rice. Saliba was undoubtedly the player of the match at Old Trafford as Arsenal secured a crucial victory heading into the final week of the season.
