Her football journey began at the youth academies of Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United then made her debut in the FA Women’s Premier League for Doncaster Rover Belles and played for Hofstra University NCAA team, making 41 appearances with 4 goals.
She returned to England and joined Leeds United before signing for Notts Country in the FA Women’s Super League, a challenge that saw her commit to playing in top leagues.
James-Turner signed with Manchester United which was a significant move in her career, where she played in the club’s inaugural Women’s Super League campaign contributing to the club’s promotion to the top tier.

In season 2022/23, the defender signed with Tottenham Hotspur where she continues excelling in her career. In March 2024, she helped Tottenham reach the Women’s FA Cup Final and she scored her first goal for the club in February 2023.
Beyond club football, she has also represented England several times and has been capped for the senior England team four times. She played her first international match as a substitute for an injured player in 2015.
