Grayson Murray cause of death shocked the entire PGA Tour. At only 30, the decorated golf player took away his life in the most unexpected twists of events. Murray breathed his last on Saturday after withdrawing from a second-round match at the Charles Schwab Challenge held in Texas.

His parents, Terry and Eric Murray, confirmed the tragedy in a statement. They attributed Grayson Murray cause of death to suicide. The 30-year-old golfer had in the past opened up about his battle with depression. Murray first struggled with anxiety and he thrust himself into alcoholism to cope with the mental illness.

In a 2023 video posted on The Korn Ferry Tour socials, Murray said that he had found the courage to speak bravely about his anxiety. He had just won the AdventHealth Championship in May 2023. The deceased golfer admitted that he had taken his parents through a rough ride since 2016 when he started battling a mental illness. They [his parents] were always there for him as he worked on being better but it was never easy for them.
Following his death, the PGA Tour asserted that it was a big loss to them because he was young and capable.
“We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare,” Monahan said in a statement according to Daily Mail Sport.

His parents were his biggest family cheerleaders but he wasn’t married yet. However, he had a beautiful relationship with his fiancée Christiana Ritchie. He professed his love for Ritchie in 2024 noting that she changed his life ever since he met her in 2021. Ritchie is a strong believer of the church and she pulled Murray closer to God throughout their relationship.
The golfer admitted to neglecting his faith despite growing up in church and having parents who were also firm Christians. But it was Ritchie who gave him a renewed sense of faith and he decided to let his life be rooted in God’s word. While at Grayson Murray cause of death; the pair met in January 2021 and love blossomed fast. They had an engagement party in December 2023 held in Nashville, Tennessee.
Murray loved Ritchie and always spoke highly of her at every opportunity he got in public. Speaking after his victory at the Sony Open this year, he described her as a strong support system.

“I have a beautiful fiancée now that I love so much and who’s so supportive of me,” PGA Tour’s X account posted the speech. He added that she made life easier for him.
He seemed to be handling his condition better every day of the year. In the 2023 video, Murray underscored that people have different battles and some manage to hide it from the public and still function normally. Others aren’t able to do this and they have a different coping mechanism.
Nevertheless, he expressed his joy in having a woke society that was supporting those battling mental illnesses without stigmatizing them.
