Chelsea has released a list of three final candidates who are leading in the managerial role candidature after the departure of Mauricio Pochettino. After a managerial change, the club is looking for a new leader to take over the helm.
They have narrowed down their options to three preferred candidates for the task including Thomas Frank, Enzo Maresca and Roberto De Zerbi. In our article, we will explore their backgrounds, coaching styles and what they might impact the Blues on.
Thomas Frank
He is a Spanish football manager who is currently the head coach of Premier League club Brentford. His coaching experience is broad as he has vast experience in youth coaching for 18 years. Before managing senior teams, he had stints with various Danish national youth teams.
His first senior management task was with Brondby IF in Denmark and his work was excellent, with respectable finishes. He then signed with Premier League club Brentford and it is here that his talent has truly flourished.
When he arrived at Brentford, it was on the verge of promotion from the Championship and also helped them get into the Premier League.
Frank Coaching style
His coaching style is a blend of several elements like the pressing style that disrupts their opponent’s build-up play high up the pitch that helps them to launch attacks and win the ball back quickly.
His teams are well organized with compact defence, positioned intelligently to minimize space for the opposition and force turnovers. His coaching style proved successful for Brentford and this application might be important at Chelsea.
Enzo Maresca
He is an Italian football manager who is currently leading Premier League club Leicester City. He started as a player and played for over two decades professionally across Europe with clubs like Juventus.

After retiring from professional football, he transitioned into coaching eventually joining Pep Guardiola who was at that moment coaching Manchester City, while Maresca was part of the coaching staff.
He then took over as the manager of Parma in Serie B where he portrayed his leadership qualities. Currently, he is heading Leicester City in the Premier League and helped them back to the Premier League.
As part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff, he led Manchester City’s development squad to their first-ever Premier League 2 title. Guardiola acknowledged his contribution to developing young talent with his playing style.
Maresca coaching style
Having spent time under Pep Guardiola who is known for possession-based football with a focus on attacking movement, he is likely to be under the philosophy. Being a former midfielder, his play style could be attacking alongside ball control.
He is a manager with potential but at the same time has limited experience at the top level. However, his preference for a possession-based style with attacking flair could be a good fit for Chelsea.
Having dealt with Manchester City’s youth development, it suggests a focus on nurturing young talents, especially with the Chelsea academy graduates.
Roberto De Zerbi
Before transitioning into coaching, Zerbi was a professional footballer who played as a midfielder primarily in Italy’s Serie B and C. His managerial journey began in Serie D before climbing through the ranks in Italy.

He managed Benevento and Sassuolo, even reading Sassuolo to their highest ever Serie A finish. He then had a brief stint at Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine and recently took over at Brifghton $Hove Albion in the Premier League.
His coaching style
His coaching style is possession based as he prioritizes on controlling the ball, creating opportunities through patient passing moves. This style is similar to Pep Guardiola’s. The attacking style could be a good fit for Chelsea, potentially bringing back some of the attractive football the club is known for.
His current stint at Albion has provided him with valuable experience in the Premier League and this may be an advantage managing Chelsea.
