Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said he is ready to depart if the club no longer needs his services from next season.

The Dutchman said his mind on Saturday evening after leading Manchester United to first FA Cup win since 2015/16 season. The Red Devils faced Manchester City at Wembley Stadium and two goals from teenagers Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo were enough for them to secure a crucial victory.

Reports had emerged on Friday that Manchester United were going to sack ten Hag whether he wins the FA Cup or not. The 54-year-old is the first manager since Sir Alex Ferguson to lead United to win trophies in two successive seasons.

Putting aside Saturday’s crucial win over city rivals, Man Utd have had a disappointing campaign overall and ten Hag’s future remains unknown to the fans. Some fans expect the former Ajax man to stay after the FA Cup win but his future is now in the hands of United’s new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS counterparts.

When asked whether Erik ten Hag will be sacked after Saturday’s match, Sir Jim stood as if ready to give an answer to the reporter but changed his mind and left without responding.

If They Don’t Want Me Anymore I’ll Win Trophies Elsewhere – Erik Ten Hag

Erik ten Hag future has been the main topic of discussion in the football world for the past two days. It was reported that the Dutchman’s time at Old Trafford was going to come to an end after the FA Cup final and when asked about the speculations, he had a perfect response.

“What you see is the team is developing, the team is winning, at the end of the day it is about winning trophies. Two trophies in two years is not bad. Three finals is not bad, but we have to keep going. I’m not satisfied with it. We have to do better. If they don’t want me anymore, I go anywhere else to win trophies because that is what I did my whole career.” Erik ten Hag said in post-match conference after his side won the FA Cup final, according to Eurosport.

Ten Hag had an impressive debut campaign with Manchester United, leading them to Carabao Cup success and a spot in the UEFA Champions League after finishing third.

However, things didn’t go as planned this season, with United struggling right from the start of it. They were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle United and failed to progress past the group stages in the UEFA Champions League in a group that also had Bayern Munich, Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

While a good number of fans demanded good performance from the team, it was difficult for ten Hag considering most of his starting XI players have spent the majority of the season on the sidelines. In fact, they have had over 14 different centre-back combination throughout the season.

Erik ten Hag spoke about the injury crisis his side has faced this campaign and told BBC Match of the Day that United can play good football if the players are fit.

It remains to be seen whether ten Hag will remain at Manchester United for another season or he will be axed like fellow Dutchman who sacked 24 hours after winning the FA Cup. Ten Hag said on Thursday that he will be going for holiday on Sunday.
