He developed his skills for youth teams in Serbia before joining KK Mega Basket, a professional team in Sernbia’s Adriatic Basketball Association. He impressed there enough to be drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the NBA draft directly from the ABA.

He declared for the 2014 NBA draft and was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the second round with the 41st overall pick. In his rookie season, he impressed, earning a spot on the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

The player was born on February 19, 1995, in Sombor, Serbia to Branislav who is an agricultural engineer. His love for horse racing was influential in his son’s life which he still enjoys even in the offseason.
He has two elder brothers Strahinja and Nemanja. The two played a big role in his early love for basketball. Strahinja had a professional basketball career in Europe while Nemanja played collegiately in the US.
He married his high school sweetheart Natalija Macesic, with whom he dated for many years before tying the knot in 2020 in their hometown of Sombor, Serbia. She is a constant source of support for her husband as she is often seen cheering him on the stands during his games.
