  • Real Madrid and Manchester City played an incredible game on Tuesday night that ended 3-3
  • The draw ended City’s ten-game winning run in the Champions League, which dates back to the 4-0 defeat of Real Madrid in last season

The Real Madrid vs Man City UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie delivered just like many people had expected.

The hosts Real Madrid endured a nightmarish start when Bernardo Silva beat goalkeeper Andriy Lunin at his near post with a quick free-kick inside two minutes. However, the Los Blancos soon levelled the scores after a brilliant Eduardo Camavinga strike was deflected into the back of the net by Ruben Dias. They then went in front two minutes later, thanks to Rodrygo who scampered in behind the defence to put the ball past Stefan Ortega.

Phil Foden scored the equalizer for Manchester City shortly after the hour mark and then Josko Gvardiol struck in the 71st minute to put the Premier League side in front. However, the epic tie ended square as Federico Valverde restored parity shortly afterwards with a well taken volley.

The draw ended Manchester City’s ten-game winning run in the UEFA Champions League, which dates back to the 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in last season’s semi-final second leg at Etihad Stadium. The Cytizens are so far unbeaten in 22 European matches (W16 D6), since a 3-1 defeat to the Los Blancos in the second leg of their semi-final back in May 2022.

Speaking after the Real Madrid vs Man City game played on Tuesday night, managers from both sides admitted that it was a good game with Pep Guardiola saying that City fans will help them win the second tie in England. Guardiola’s side have only lost one of their last 13 games against Spanish teams, winning eight and drawing four.

“I think that was a really good, entertaining match which dignified this competition. Both teams wanted to attack, in different way. What I liked most was how we played in the second half at 2-1 down. We showed composure, we controlled the game really well. In Manchester it will be a sell-out in our stadium, our fans will try to help us score the 1-0, then we’ll do the rest. The team that wins next week goes to the semi-final.” Pep Guardiola said, according to UEFA.com.

Manchester City, who won the UEFA Champions League for the first time in history last season as part of the treble, knew they had a big task ahead of them on Tuesday night facing 14-time winners Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu.

The Bernabeu was buzzing but the home fans were silenced barely two minutes after kick-off when City midfielder Bernardo Silva cleverly snuck a free-kick from 25 yards around the wall and beat Real’s keeper Lunin.

Real Madrid levelled the game ten minutes later though, thanks to Eduardo Camavinga’s strike from long range that wrong-footed Stefan Ortega after being deflected by Ruben Dias. The Los Blancos were in front shortly afterwards when Manuel Akanji’s heel allowed Rodrygo to easily direct the ball into the back of the net.

City were in control of this tie but lacked quality in front of goal, which led to them trailing at the break. Phil Foden, who has been in blistering form this season, stepped up when his team needed him the most by unleashing a thunderous strike from the edge of the box to level the scores in the 66th minute.

Moments later, Josko Gvardiol put the Cytizens in front with a well taken strike from long range that found the far corner. It seemed Pep Guardiola’s side were going to walk away with a crucial victory here but Federico Valverde saved the day for the hosts in the 79th minute to set up a second leg tie at the Etihad Stadium next week.
