Jannik Sinner beat Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets to clinch the men’s title in Miami Open final on Sunday evening.
Sinner, who finished runner-up in Miami in 2021 and 2023, demolished his Bulgarian opponent in straight sets (6-3 6-1). Sunday’s clash was a rematch of the 2024 Australian Open where Dimitrov led by two sets but somehow lost his momentum and let Sinner triumph.
Apart from Melbourne, the 22-year-old had also triumphed in Rotterdam, so this marks his third title in 2024. His only defeat this year came against Carlos Alcaraz at the Indian Wells two weeks ago.
The triumph in Miami Open final saw Sinner clinch his first trophy at the hard-court event and his second ATP Masters 1000 crown overall. He will rise to world number two today (Monday) on the PIF ATP Rankings, replacing the Spaniard Alcaraz. Meanwhile, Dimitrov, will climb into the top ten rankings for the first time since 2018.

Sinner is the first Italian to be ranked that high and also the first to claim more than one Masters 1000 titles. His other Masters 1000 title came last season in Toronto.
“I’m really proud obviously about the result. I started off struggling a little bit this week. I haven’t had so much time to adapt on this court, so I knew in the beginning that it’s going to be tough. As the tournament went on, I felt better and better. Today’s performance was really, really good. I’m just proud how I handled the situation. It was not easy, so it was a very, very good two weeks.” Jannik Sinner said after his victory over Grigor Dimitrov in South Florida.
Sinner has been a menace throughout the Miami Open tournament, dropping just one set en route to his victory on Sunday.
Dimitrov, on the other hand, was also at his best and dispatched the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Hubert Hurcakz and Alexander Zverev before facing Sinner.
The Bulgarian started strongly against Sinner, just like at the Australian Open final earlier this year, winning the first eight points on his serve and holding at love in each game. However, he got broken at 2-2 after trying to be too fancy.
Dimitrov then hit a drop shot into the net and would advance to the net twice but got beaten by two deft passing shots from Sinner. Any chance he had of winning the second set was quickly done away with when Sinner broke him at 2-1. The Italian would then proceed to clinch the set and win his second final in 2024.
Danielle Collins Wins Women’s Singles Title
Danielle Collins won what is arguably the biggest title of her career after beating Elena Rybakina in Saturday’s final. The 30-year-old, who said in January she will retire at the end of the season, stunned fourth seed Rybakina 7-5 6-3 to win the title on home soil.

Collins is the sixth American woman to win the East Coast tournament, joining the list which already had Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Venus Williams (three-time champion, Serena Williams (eight-time champion) and Sloane Stephens. The Miami Open final triumph marked a third career title for Collins, and her first since 2021.
Collins got emotional while speaking after the final and appreciated the fans for supporting her. The Miami Open is played in her home state of Florida.
“I’ve worked so hard and it’s taken me a little bit longer than a lot of players on tour. Having a whole stadium on my side was something so special. It’s been hard not to get emotional.” Danielle Collins is quoted by BBC.
