Injury

He was forced to withdraw from the US Open in 2021 due to an injury to his right ankle, and he was unable to play in Roland Garros in 2022 due to a hand problem. Then, in an unfortunate turn of events, Berrettini tested positive with COVID-19 and was unable to attend Wimbledon in 2022. He also picked another injury at the US Open 2023 and took time off the court.

Just prior to the Australian Open 2024, he suffered a right foot injury that would force him to miss the much-anticipated matchup with Stefanos Tsitsipas.  He took time off the court only returning at the Miami Open where he lost to Andy Murray.

Matteo Berretttini hasn’t had a moment to breath. He was forced to defend his ex-girlfriend Melissa Satta when she came under fire over his injuries. Some quarters believed that she was too engrossed in bed matters with having good time in bed and this allegedly left Berrettini exhausted and vulnerable to injuries. Satta retaliated against those who were promoting the notion that Berrettini’s abdominal issues was caused by overindulging in bedroom activities. The 37-year-old Italian model and TV presenter told Vanity Fair that she is often the victim of bullying because of her romantic relationships’ intimacies.

According to her Berrettini had an abdominal issue since 2021.  The two weren’t dating at the time as she was getting over her divorce with international footballer Kevin Prince Boateng. She knew that dating Berrettini entailed carrying around the burden of constant criticism from those who are always on her case. Satta acknowledged that she always knew that if the man she is dating got hurt, she would be bullied. Her feminine desires between the sheets constantly surface in all of this.

Breakup with Melissa Satta

As if injury and the burden of proof that Satta had nothing to do with his abdominal issues, Matteo Berrettini had to contend with a breakup. Most tennis fans were shocked to learn about their breakup.Despite having inspired many with their dedication to one another in the past, the two lovers identified numerous “intense situations” as one of the reasons for their breakup. The Italian tennis player said he had fun with Satta but they can’t be together anymore.

“Melissa Satta and I are no longer together. What I can say is that we had a beautiful, intense relationship and we have great respect for each other,” he announced.

Looking back at all his struggles Berrettini said it was getting hard for him to even wake up due to feeling so low.

“It was the most difficult moment, during which I felt that the tank had been completely emptied and that I really struggled to get out of bed in the morning. At a certain point I said: now I only do the things I feel like doing. I had to take care of myself,” he told Red Bull Zeta series.

How Did He Get Back on Track?

He took time to work on his inner beige and won The Grand Prix Hassan II tennis tournament in Marrakech, Morocco. He gained a fresh perspective from the triumph in Morocco, which he will use in the upcoming days and weeks.

All this work I have done on myself gives me the strength to say that there will certainly be difficult moments, sad moments.

However, the important thing was to start again with better energy than in the past and to rediscover joy and excitement for an event that is coming and not the terror of saying: now something will happen,” he told Red Bull Zeta.
