Lewis Hamilton will race into his 40s, he says adding that he draws inspiration from Aston Martin’s driver Fernando Alonso who is now 43.
Hamilton will turn 40 in 2025, a season that a lot of F1 fans are looking forward to as he bids goodbye to Mercedes. He will race for Ferrari starting in 2025 and make a dash for his eighth championship title in Formula 1 with Scuderia Ferrari.
He hasn’t come close to winning a World Championship title in 2022 due to Mercedes’ dismal performance. The 2024 season is, in fact, the worst in his career history.
Lewis Hamilton Will Race into His 40s
With the last but worst season so far in his racing history, the Mercedes driver has hopes of reinventing his lost glory with Ferrari. His current Mercedes W15 has performed poorly in the past four races of the season.
He has managed a personal best of P7 this season while Red Bull and Ferrari fight for the top spot on the grid. With this ambition, Hamilton is not worried at al that he is soon turning 40 and competing with young turks below 30.

He says that he has a clear plan to make the best of his racing career in his 40s.
“I am not the oldest driver here. I am going to be racing for quite some time still so it is good [Alonso] is still around,” he told BBC.
The seven-time Formula One champion added that Alonso inspires him with his zeal to win which is why he is still racing in his mid-40s.
“Fernando is one of the best drivers we’ve had in the sport so for him to continue to be here and continue to have the output he’s had just shows what is possible. And shows the new era of athletes, what the human body can do and continue to do if you nurture it.”
When Will Lewis Hamilton Retire?
There is no timeline on when Hamilton will retire, especially now that he is writing a new chapter in his F1 Career at Ferrari. He will drive for Ferrari for two seasons at the very least meaning he will be 42.
Considering how powerful the Ferrari SF-24 – currently competing in the 2024 season – Hamilton could stick with the Italian longer.
He admits that he never pictured himself racing in F1 at 40 years old but he has made peace with it.
“I never thought I would be racing into my 40s. I’m pretty sure I said I wouldn’t. But life is such a crazy trip. I don’t feel 40. I generally feel great,” he added.
Drawing back to Alonso, the Aston Martin driver not only inspires Hamilton but Lando Norris who races for McLaren.
According to Norris, Alonso’s feat of competing at the top level of Formula 1 for such a long time is unique and there may never be F1 drivers to do such.
However, Hamilton could be one of the few Formula One drivers, if not the last one to follow in Alonso’s footsteps.

Lewis Hamilton has some fascinating perspectives on his life beyond motorsports despite no apparent timeline on when he will hang his helmet.
“Well, I think it’s gonna be film and fashion,” he said. His distinctive sense of style and penchant for pushing the boundaries when it comes to his outfit choices have made him a fashion star.
Beyond the racetrack, his impeccable sense of style frequently adorns red carpets and fashion events. Working with respected designers and businesses has further solidified Hamilton’s reputation in the fashion industry.
Further, the soon-to-be Ferrari driver made his maiden entry into the film industry in 2023. He founded Dawn Apollo Films, a production company for television and movies. This company is connected to Apple TV+.
Among Dawn Apollo Films’ first productions is a Formula One documentary. Actor Brad Pitt will be the lead of Hamilton’s debut film, he revealed in a 2023 interview.
