A few days after getting promotion back to the English Premier League, Leicester City have got the party started by officially winning the Championship. The Foxes beat Preston 3-0 on Monday night to wrap up their fine season since being relegated.
Jamie Vardy set Leicester on their way to a memorable victory by opening the scoring in the 36th minute. He then increased his side’s lead in the second half before Kasey McAteer added a third with a close range header to seal the win.
Leicester currently lead the way in the Championship with 97 points, seven above second placed Leeds United and Ipswich Town, who have a game in hand. The Foxes will play their last game of the season on Saturday against Blackburn Rovers at King Power Stadium.

“In the end we did it and we have brought this club to where it deserves to be. In this moment the relief is big, but now it is time to enjoy it.” Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca, who took charge of the club after relegation told BBC Radio Leicester.
Leicester have totally dominated the Championship and are the fourth club in history to secure immediate promotion back to the Premier League after Burnely, Fulham and Norwich City.
The 31 wins by Leicester this campaign have seen them equal their club record when they received promotion to the Premier League ten years ago. On Saturday, they could equal a 104-year record for most wins set by Tottenham Hotspur if they beat Blackburn.
How Leicester City Beat Preston
Facing Preston on a cold evening in Lancashire, Leicester City showed their dominance in the Championship once again by cruising to victory.
The former Premier League champions were in control of the match from the early stages and it wasn’t a surprise when they eventually took the lead with first half drawing close to an end. Yunus Akgun found Vardy with his back to goal but the Englishman made no mistake as his effort went straight into the top corner to open the scoring.
Things got worse for Preston in the 52nd minute when Vardy added a second goal. The 37-year-old was just at the right place in the box to score after Wout Faes’s effort struck the bar.
22-year-old Kasey McAteer then got the job done in the 67th minute when he headed home Issahaku Fatawu’s cross. Preston defenders will be blaming themselves for the goal as McAteer was completely unmarked when he put Leicester 3-0 up.
Fatawu came close to adding Leicester’s fourth of the evening after cutting in but his strike hit the post. Former Tottenham Hotspur man Harry Winks saw his effort saved by Preston goalie Frederick Woodman.
The hosts first big chance of the match came afterwards but Emil Riis fired wide. Whereas Leicester are celebrating their return to Premier League football, Preston will be questioning their performance in the past few matches as they have now lost four consecutive matches.

Prior to kick-off on Monday night, Jamie Vardy made it clear that he is not planning to end his career anytime soon. The 37-year-old, who is undoubtedly one of the greatest players in Leicester’s history, said he feels he can carry on as his legs are still fine.
“Listen, I’m not ready to hang the boots up yet. The legs feel fine and I feel as fit as I ever have so we’ll just see what happens.” Jamie Vardy is quoted by Metro.
