  • Infidelity, violence, irresponsible behaviour, gambling, and alcoholism led to divorce
  • But it was different for Kaka
  • He got divorced in 2015 after ten years of marriage

Infidelity, violence, irresponsible behaviour, gambling, and alcoholism among others are some of the reasons women leave their men but not former AC Milan player Ricardo Kaka. His ex-wife Caroline Celico left him for none of the above but for being too perfect.

It is the most peculiar separation and a lot of men and women struggle to get perfection in their relationships. However, the former Brazilian footballer hacked traits millions of people globally have tried and failed dismally many times.

Kaka Relationship with Ex-wife Caroline Celico

The former Brazilian football sensation met and married the love of his life Caroline Celico. In 2002, while attending St. Paul’s School in São Paulo, Brazil, Kaka met Celico, the woman who would become his future wife. He was 20 and she was only 15. Romance bloomed on a holiday in Milan after two years of dating. Kaka proposed, and on December 23, 2005, they were married in a ceremony held in São Paulo.  Two new members of their family—a girl and a son—arrived.

Kaka’s hectic football career with AC Milan kept them apart for long periods, but their love story eventually came to pass. Caroline subsequently became a pastor herself after accepting his religion and joining Kaka’s church.

Why Did Kaka and Caroline Celico Divorce?

The couple divorced in 2015, ten years after exchanging wedding vows. Another eight years later, Celico is the subject of debate for divorcing Kaka despite having two children. She has since moved on and gotten married again.

In an interview with The Sun, Celico cleared the air on why she walked off her marriage with the footballer who had never had any family controversy. Some people thought that he had wronged his ex-wife in so many ways that the damage was irreparable. However, it turns out this wasn’t the case.

Surprisingly, she felt that Kaka was too perfect for a husband and this took away a spark in their relationship.

“Kaka never betrayed me. He treated me well, he gave me a wonderful family, but I was not happy, something was missing. The problem was, he was too perfect for me,” she said.

The 41-year-old former footballer loved Celico selflessly and he made it known during his wedding. He praised her and promised unending love, only for his dedication to turn out as the last bullet that would end his relationship.

“I promise to give you back and make you the happiest woman in the world. I love you,” he said.

Celico got married to another man named Eduardo and they are expecting their first child in May 2024. She is happy that they have a great understanding on how to raise their two children who are now teenagers despite the divorce.

“I have a lot of respect for my lifetime story, and I am very grateful for everything I have lived so far. My ex-husband and I found a healthy way to raise our children, and I’m so grateful for this,” she added.

The former Real Madrid midfielder kept off the dating scene for four years after his divorce. Kaka then met Brazilian model Carolina Diaz and married her in 2019 in Brazil.

Football Career

Kaka’s trophy-filled career cemented his place in football history. It all started in his home country of Brazil, as he advanced through the São Paulo FC ranks while displaying his amazing abilities and leadership. Italian powerhouse AC Milan noticed his skills in 2003. In Serie A, Kaka developed into a dynamic midfield player. In his rookie season, he led Milan to their first Scudetto (Serie A title), organized attacks, and scored incredible goals. He became a fan favourite because of his grace and vision on the field.

The year 2007 marked the apex of his career. He helped Milan win the Champions League by defeating a very skilled Liverpool squad in the championship game. He also won the Ballon d’Or this year. He made a big move to Real Madrid, but injuries derailed him to some extent. However, Kaka, who treasured his relationship with the team, went back to Milan for a second stint. Before hanging up his boots in 2017, he played in MLS at Orlando City.
