The Arsenal vs Chelsea match played last night saw the Blues suffer one of the most humiliating defeats in the London derby. Ruthless Arsenal put five past Chelsea, with former Blues Kai Havertz scoring twice in eight minutes. Ben White also found the back of the net twice adding to Leandro Trossard’s early goal.

The massive win by Arsenal comes just three days after bouncing back from two consecutive defeats, having lost to Aston Villa in the Premier League and Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

Mikel Arteta’s side are now three points clear at the top of the table with 77 points but have played one more match than second placed Liverpool. Manchester City, who occupy third spot, have 73 points and two games in hand.

Next up for Arsenal is a tough hurdle against fellow London club Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. If the Gunners prevail here, City will have to be perfect in their remaining fixtures if they are to defend the Premier League title they won last season.

Meanwhile, the humiliating defeat during the Arsenal vs Chelsea did no good to Mauricio Pochettino’s side who remain ninth on the standings with 47 points. Their hopes of attaining a European spot on a disappointing season has been heavily dented.

Havertz Becomes Chelsea’s Nightmare

Chelsea were far from their best and allowed Arsenal to amass a total of 27 shots. However, Havertz scoring against them twice is what probably hurts the most. The German parted ways with the Blues last summer and joined rivals Arsenal for a fee believed to be 65 million euros and expected to rise with add-ons.

It’s barely three years since Havertz scored that goal against Man City at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto that won Chelsea their second UEFA Champions League title. The midfielder is now enjoying life with rivals Arsenal and has become their lucky charm. He has scored in eleven goals this season and Chelsea have won them all.

Arteta was full of praise for the 24-year-old after the Arsenal vs Chelsea match and described his performance as tremendous.

“His overall contribution in every phase of play was tremendous. When you add the two goals he scored and some of the link-up play that he had in big moments, it was a great performance.” Mikel Arteta said, according to BBC.

A Recap Of The Arsenal Vs Chelsea Match

Mikel Arteta made two changes to his team that beat Wolves 2-0 over the weekend, with Jakub Kiwior and Gabriel Jesus being replaced by Thomas Partey and Takehiro Tomiyasu. On the other hand, Chelsea played without Cole Palmer who has been arguably their best player this season.

It was Arsenal who made the dream start at the Emirates when Leandro Trossard fired a low shot that beat Chelsea goalkeeper Dorde Petrovic at his near post. The Gunners came close to increasing their advantage shortly afterwards but Petrovic did well to stop efforts by Havertz and Trossard.

Chelsea then got into the game and would have found the leveller but Nicolas Jackson’s cut-back was deflected off the post. With a few minutes left to play before half-time, Enzo Fernandez came close to scoring but his effort went just wide.

Arsenal came flying out of the blocks in the second half and doubled their lead in the 52nd minute, thanks to Ben White who reacted fast to win a loose ball and the fire into the far corner. Five minutes later, Havertz scored his first goal of the match after being set through on goal by Martin Odegaard.

The German scored his second of the evening in the 65th minute to completely ruin any little of hope Chelsea had pulling a comeback in this match. Arsenal’s fantastic evening was rounded off by White’s second goal with 20 minutes left to play.
