  • Liverpool boast a rich history which makes them rank among the best football teams of all time
  • They have had several amazing players over the years, including Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez and Mohamed Salah
  • However, it’s not everyone who has played for the Merseyside club is remembered by fans

While legendary footballers such as Kenny Dalgish and Steven Gerrard left an indelible mark at Anfield, there are a good number of players you forgot were at Liverpool.

The Reds boast a rich history which makes them rank among the best football teams of all time. As a result, well known players such as Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have donned the jersey. However, it’s not everyone who has played for the Merseyside club is remembered by fans. Some struggled and had to leave in pursuit of success elsewhere.

From Victor Moses to Rigobert Song, here are six to players you forgot were at Liverpool:

1. Victor Moses

Victor Moses has disappeared from the eyes of many football fans since leaving the English Premier League. Many remember the Nigerian forward for his time with Chelsea where he won the Premier League, FA Cup and two UEFA Europa League titles.

Moses joined Chelsea in 2012 from Wigan Athletic but was loaned out several times before making a name for himself at Stamford Bridge. One of the clubs he spent time on loan at was Liverpool. He joined the Reds in the summer of 2013 and remained there until the end of the 2013-14 season before returning to his parent club Chelsea.

Moses found it difficult to be a regular starter at Anfield considering Raheem Sterling’s brilliant form under Brendan Rodgers. During his time with Liverpool, he only managed nine starts but made a total of 22 appearances.

2. Steven Caulker

Steven Caulker is one of the players you forgot were at Liverpool. The centre-back signed with the Reds on loan in January 2016 after his loan with Southampton was cancelled. He made his Liverpool debut on 13 January, one day after joining the club, in a 3-3 draw against Arsenal. He played in two more league matches against Manchester United and Norwich City before leaving the club.

Surprisingly, Caulker, whose parent club was Queens Park Rangers, was used as a striker during his time at Liverpool. It just didn’t work because he is naturally a defender. The 32-year-old is currently the player-manager of Spanish club Malaga City.

3. Luis Alberto

Luis Alberto has been a great contributor in the Serie A since joining Lazio in 2016, but how many remember his spell at Anfield? Alberto started his football career in Spain playing for Sevilla. After his breakthrough, he had a short spell at FC Barcelona before moving to England where he signed with Liverpool in the summer of 2016.

After two seasons of struggling to get playing time, Alberto was loaned out to Malaga where he spent a season and then to Deportivo La Coruna where he spent another season before offloaded to Lazio. With the Italian side, he is an undisputed starter.

4. Conor Coady

Next on our list of players you forgot were at Liverpool is Conor Coady. The 31-year-old currently plays for EFL club Leicester City after spells with Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Despite starting his career at Liverpool, few remember his time with the Reds as he became a popular figure while playing for Wolves. He spent eight years with the Wanderers before being released on a permanent deal at the end of last season.

5. Rigobert Song

Rigobert Song is a former professional footballer who now works as a manger. Song last managed the Cameroon national team and was sacked earlier this year following Cameroon’s poor performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament (AFCON).

Since a large number  of people know him as a manager, few are actually aware that he played in the English Premier League for Liverpool. Song moved to Anfield in January 1999 after a spell in Italy where he had been playing for Salternitana.

The Cameroon legend won the UEFA Cup with Liverpool before continuing his career at West Ham. He later played for 1. FC Koln (loan), Lens, Galatasaray and then Trabzonspor where he ended his playing career in 2010.
