Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City will be hosting rivals Manchester United in the Manchester derby on Sunday.
The Manchester City vs Manchester United game will be played at Etihad Stadium and will mark the second time these two are meeting this season. City emerged victorious in the first meeting played at Old Trafford in October last year.

Given the ease with which teams are playing through Manchester United right now, it would be a major shock to see them beat City. As the football world waits to see how things unfold on Sunday, here are the payers with the most goals in Manchester derby.
1. Wayne Rooney – 11 Goals
No surprise here. Wayne Rooney is one of the greatest forwards the football world has ever seen. The Legendary attacker is not only United’s all-time top goal scorer but also the highest scorer in the Manchester derby.
Rooney scored his first derby goal in 2005 and continued to score goals against City throughout his career. By the time he played in his final match of the derby he had scored a total of eleven goals. Rooney was an indispensable member of United during Sir Alex Ferguson’s era.
2. Joe Hayes – 10 Goals
One of the greatest forwards in Manchester City’s history, Joe Hayes scored 10 goals against Manchester United during the 1950s and early 1960s. His most memorable moment in the derby was when he grabbed a hat-trick in a 5-2 win for the Cityzens.
Hayes would have achieved more with Manchester City has he not suffer a career-threatening knee injury that prevented him from reaching his full potential. Hayes scored 142 goals in 331 games with Manchester City.
2. Francis Lee – 10 Goals
Just like Hayes, Francis Lee also scored ten goals against Manchester United in the derby. Lee was a proper striker and often showcased his brilliance when playing against United.
Following his retirement from football, he served as the chairman and main shareholder of Manchester City. He passed away on 2 October 2023.
3. Sir Bobby Charlton – 9 Goals

One of the greatest players in Manchester United’s history, Sir Bobby Charlton played in 25 Manchester derbies, scoring nine times. He is also the second highest-scorer in United history, behind Wayne Rooney.
The United legend was a menace in front of goal during his playing days and is one of the reasons why the Red Devils have a very rich history in European football. Bobby won the both the World Cup and Ballon d’Or. He passed away in November 2023.
3. Sergio Aguero – 9 Goals
Manchester City have had several top players over the years, and Sergio Aguero is one name that is firmly etched in the club’s history books. The Argentine scored the most famous goal in Premier League history as Manchester City turned a 2-1 deficit to beat Queens Park Rangers 3-2 and win their first league title since the 1967–68 season.
While he did produce several match-winning performances over the course of his career with Manchester City, he is often remembered for his good record against the Manchester United, scoring nine goals in 15 appearances. Aguero, who is City’s all-time top scorer, bagged a hat-trick as City thrashed the Red Devils 6-1 at Old Trafford.
4. Eric Cantona – 8 Goals
Eric Cantona is another played who played a significant role in Manchester United’s huge success after the Munich disaster. As a result, he was voted the best United player ever in 2003 by a United magazine. The French striker showed his goalscoring prowess against Manchester City, scoring eight goals in the Manchester derby.

4. Colin Bell – 8 Goals
Despite playing as a midfielder, Colin Bell terrorized Manchester United with goals during his playing days. He scored eight times against the Red Devils in one of the biggest rivalries in English football.

Very few players have played for both Manchester United and Manchester City. Well, Brian Kidd happens to be one of them and he did score for both sides in the Manchester derby. The Englishman scored five goals with the Red Devils and three goals for City in the derby.

Rounding up the list of players with the most goals in Manchester derby is Joe Spence. One of the most terrific players in Manchester United’s history, Spence scored eight goals against Manchester City.
