Liverpool and Manchester City drew 1-1 at Anfield Stadium on Sunday
The Liverpool vs Man City clash was the last Premier League meeting for Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp
The Liverpool vs Man City game was hyped by many as the game of the Premier League season so far, and it didn’t disappoint. Despite City taking an early lead, the two sides couldn’t be separated at full time as the match ended 1-1.
Manchester City opened the scoring through John Stones, who lost his marker to tap in Kevin De Bruyne’s corner from close range. It seemed as if the Cytizens were on course to a second victory in nine trips to Anfield Stadium under Pep Guardiola before goalkeeper Ederson tackled Darwin Nunez in the box.

World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister made no mistake as he converted the resulting penalty to make the scores 1-1. Despite both sides creating chances afterwards, none was able to find the winning goal they badly needed in their pursuit for the Premier League title.
Jurgen Klopp was impressed by his side’s performance against the Premier League defending champions: “Sensational. The second half was the best we ever played against Manchester City, definitely. Exceptional football game. Wow.” The German manager is quoted by ESPN.
How The Liverpool Vs Man City Game Unfolded
Manchester City started the game well and could have taken the lead inside eight minutes had it not been for Caoimhin Kelleher’s goalkeeping prowess to deny Julian Alvarez and Kevin De Bruyne.
Just as many expected, it din’t take long before Liverpool got into the game, and they thought they had opened the scoring when Luis Diaz tapped the ball into the back of the net. However, Darwin Nunez, who teed up Diaz for the goal, was in an offside position.
The opening goal of the match finally arrived on the 23rd minute, thanks to De Bruyne’s intelligent corner delivery that left Liverpool’s defence confused and allowed John Stones the opportunity to beat Kelleher.

Erling Haaland had an attempt saved afterwards while Dominic Szoboszlai and Diaz failed to hit the target on the other end.
Liverpool eventually found their way back into the game in the 50th minute when Mac Allister converted from the spot. This was after Ake’s carelessly underhit backpass forced Ederson to sprint out of his box and tackle Nunez, who was threatening to win the ball.
Ederson was later forced to leave the pitch due to an injury he sustained during the tackle. Mohamed Salah was introduced on the 61st minute and he created a goalscoring chance for Diaz, only for thew Colombian forward to miss the target.
Salah, Mac Allister and Nunez had chances too as the match’s momentum shifted completely to Liverpool’s way. But it was City who almost walked away with all three points as Jeremy Doku’s strike hit the post. The Belgian’s high boot on Mac Allister on the other end prompted a VAR check, but was cleared by the officials.
The points were eventually shared at Anfield.

Sunday’s Liverpool vs Man City clash was the last Premier League meeting for Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, as the latter is expected to leave his coaching role at the end of the season. The two managers have showed nothing but mutual respect for each other for the past eight years and did the same last evening.
The duo shared a warm embrace both before and after the game, with Pep saying in the post match conference that Klopp made City a better team.
“He will be back! He loves the job too much. What can I say? He made us a better team, he made me a better manager. I wish he will be back soon, because football needs personalities like him. A lot of credit to Liverpool. They proved again what they have done is unbelievable for this rivalry.” Pep Guardiola told BBC, as per Reuters.
