Emma Raducanu priorities in 2024 have shocked many people because she is not interested in playing all tournaments in the WTA Tour.
The British tennis star is focusing on being a better player as opposed to playing a lot of tournaments like most of her fans expected.
She is currently at the Indian Wells 2024 in California with a Thursday match schedule against Swiss-Spanish tennis player Rebeka Masarova. Masarova is ranked 96th in the world.
Raducanu who got a wildcard to this Masters 1000 event will play in the opening round of this tournament against Masarova.

While Raducanu plays at the BNP Paribas Open main draw, she is focusing on perfecting her tennis skills. In contrast to only following the crowd or playing a lot of matches, the 2021 US Open winner has a goal to become a better tennis player.
To achieve this, she is ready to work on her game and development. Raducanu while speaking at an interview with BBC Sport, said that her plan will get her back to the top.
“I want to work on becoming a better tennis player. I think for me, I’m not too concerned about this year’s tournaments,” she said. “A lot of people out there would say that I need matches, but I think that for me, I want to work on my game and development.
“Taking time to do that is very necessary and not just following the crowd, or playing a lot of matches, or dropping down [to Challenger level] to do that. I want to work on developing skills.”
Following surgery on both her wrists and her ankle last year, Raducanu returned to Auckland in January after an eight-month absence from WTA.
With three tournaments completed—Auckland, the Australian Open, and Abu Dhabi—and one first-round exit in Doha, Raducanu finished with a 3–4 record in 2024.
In her last appearance, the former world No. 10 fell to Anhelina Kalinina 6-0, 7-6(6) in the opening round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Qatar last month.
Her long absence saw her WTA ranking fall to world No 250 which is why she got a wildcard to play at the Indian Wells. Returning to action is still a hard tackle but with her priorities set in 2024, she will triumph
“It’s just a bit of a journey for me, I would say, you don’t really know what to expect after being out for eight months. I felt like because I was so go-go-go since December, I felt like I became a little fatigued, so it was good to go back, freshen up and practise for the American swing, which I’m a big fan of,” she added.

Does Emma Raducanu Have Another Plan for 2024?
In addition, Raducanu talked about the possibility of playing for Great Britain versus France in April in their Billie Jean King Cup qualification match
Although she is unsure she will be called up for this tournament, she is ready to make a show when called upon. She will also play at the Stuttgart Open which usually comes after the Billie Jean King Cup.
Raducanu did not play in the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup – formerly known as the Fed Cup. She could not represent Britain due to her fitness challenges at the time.
Her eight-month absence from WTA in 2023 was the hardest moment in her tennis career as she recovered from surgery.
She had so much time to reflect on her tennis career which was on the rocks due to failing performance occasioned by injuries to her knee and wrists.
Part of her career progression entailed hiring a new coach, Nick Cavaday. He took over from Russian coach Dmitry Tursonov who coached Raducanu temporarily in 2022.
In addition, Raducanu has been awarded a wildcard to participate in the Miami Open in 2024, which takes place from March 17–31.
