On catching the attention of European scouts, several clubs from France, Belgium and Norway followed his progress. He had an opportunity to choose the club he wanted to join and in this case, he opted for Molde FK in Norway, a decision that may have been influenced by several factors.

The club offered a quicker path to regular playing time compared to potentially larger clubs with greater competition. Also, another young striker Haaland used the club as a stepping stone to success and this would have motivated Fofana.

He made his debut for the club with a goal in the Europa League, followed by a transfer to Chelsea.
