5 Star players who could replace Mbappe at PSG this summer

It seems Real Madrid are on course to another big transfer this coming summer transfer window, but who could replace Mbappe at PSG?

Kylian Mbappe has informed PSG that he intends to leave the club at the end of this season when his contract expires. According to football journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the talented forward is already negotiating with Real Madrid as it is likely to be his next destination.

Mbappe, 25, joined PSG in 2017 from Monaco and has since scored 243 goals in 290 matches, winning 13 trophies. With the Frenchman making it clear that he won’t be staying for another season, the club has no other alternative but to start finding his replacement. Here are five players who could replace Mbappe at PSG:

1. Victor Osimhen 

According to The Athletic, Napoli talisman Victor Osimhen has emerged as a leading candidate to fill the gap that will be left at PSG by Mbappe this summer. Osimhen played a key role as Napoli won their first Scudetto in over 30 years last season, netting 30 goals in 39 league matches.

Although he hasn’t it been at his best this season, he was named the 2023 African Footballer of the Year and led Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they lost to hosts Ivory Coast.

Osimhen’s prowess in front of goal and physical attributes make him a favourite to replace Mbappe, but signing him won’t be an easy task as several Premier League teams are also eyeing a move for the Nigerian this summer. His price tag is estimated to be €150 million due to the new deal he signed at Napoli in the winter.

2. Rafael Leao

Next on the list of players who could replace Mbappe at PSG is Rafael Leao. The AC Milan forward is known for his knack of scoring crucial goals and explosive pace, drawing comparisons to Mbappe.

PSG have previously expressed interest in Leao and with Mbappe’s exit being expected, they could opt to sign the youngster this summer. A few weeks ago French journalist Saber Desfarges wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that PSG have set their sights on Leao for the 2024-25 season. The Rossoneri star is aware of the interests from Paris.

But just like Victor Osimhen, PSG will have to part ways with a significant amount of cash to acquire Leao as he signed a new deal with Milan last year that keeps him at the club until 2028. His release clause is €175 million.

3. Marcus Rashford 

PSG have resurrected their interest in Marcus Rashford, The Mirror reported at the start of this month. Rashford has been on the Parisians’ radar for some time now and Mbappe’s exit could offer a perfect opportunity to acquire him this summer.

However, Rashford has been far from his best this season and had disciplinary issue with United in January after attending a party in Belfast and then reporting ill the following training session. On top of that, the Red Devils have no intentions of selling the 26-year-old this summer so PSG might be forced to look for other options.

4. Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah is one of the players who could replace Mbappe at PSG. At 31, the Liverpool star is still at his best unlocking defences and scoring crucial goals. While he is not getting any younger, he is still a good choice considering he is still doing wonders at his age. The Reds hitman has scored 18 goals from 27 appearances across all competitions this summer.

Salah’s current contract with Liverpool expires in 2025, but with Klopp leaving this summer, he might also decide to exit. The Egyptian has strong interests from Saudi Arabia but PSG have the financial power to sign him if they will be interested.

5. Bernardo Silva 

Another name on the list of players who could replace Mbappe at PSG is Bernardo Silva. PSG have been showing interest in the Portuguese international for a very long time now and this  summer could be the perfect time to acquire him.

Silva, who played with Mbappe at Monaco, is one of the best midfielders in the world and could be a good choice for PSG considering he has experience playing in Ligue One. The Manchester City star is under contract with the club until 2026 and his release clause is understood to be €60 million.
